Hi!
I'm a newby to R/C and to RCU. I have a Sequel 2M pattern plane with retracts, a Bully engine; I think it's a 120 with 2 glow plugs with a long tuned exhaust. The plane has been flown quite a bit in the distant past in competitions. I haven't flown it yet but before I do, I'm having an experienced R/C builder check the engine out.
I would like to know if parts are still available for this engine in case the engine needs a rebuild. If someone has the same or similar plane, I'm also interested in any other engines and sizes that would be suitable for replacement. I'm thinking that since the engine may need to be installed upside down, I may consider a 4 stroke Saito or other brand.
In addition, I'm interested in knowing more about the company that sold the model. Thanks for your help! Eric

My Feedback: (121)
The Bully engines were very well made because the were basically modified Webras. Bully went out of business in the late '90s (the company owner was tragically killed in an auto accident). Unfortunately, Webra went out of business as well, though only a few years ago. You can always get bearings, after that, finding some parts may be difficult. The Sequel was a Dave Guerin design ( modification/improvement to Chip Hyde's Dr. Jekyll) and was kitted by Piedmont models who also distributed Webra pattern engines (the 1.45 and 1.60 pumped rear exhaust engines). Dave Guerin is still around, but Piedmont has quietly disappeared.
If you choose to replace the engine with a 4-stroke, I would recommend the YS 1.40 sport.
Good luck,
Will

Flywill is on the mark on all points. A nice exhaust system from Central Hobbies would be a nice addition. Central carries all YS engines. They are a bit more expensive than the Saitos but are worth every cent. Another possibility is the OS120FX 2 stroke which is still in production. Not as strong as the Bully120 but close; it's a side exhaust engine tho. OS also makes 4 strokes
Or you might consider a Webra 145 or OS 140 2 stroke. They take the same exhaust pretty much as what your plane came with. These engines are no longer available from a manufacturer but many guys have them used in their shops and you should be able to buy one for a couple hundred. They most likely will need bearings. Some guys may have NIB engines as well but still expect to pay less than a new price.
A totally different approach would be to get an OS GT22, a gasoline engine. About as powerful as the Bully when piped. Except this set-up would be a few ounces heavier overall than either the 2 stroke or 4 stroke glow
You have options.....

IMHO I'd ignore the nay-sayers and fly the airplane as is. Dave Guerin's Sequel is a great flying airplane and the Bully is a fine engine. I flew the final two years of my 20+ year pattern career (1980-2000) with an inverted Bully 120 Long Stroke powered OMS in Masters and F3A. That's it in my avatar picture. The Bully never gave me a problem of any kind. It never lost fire in flight and was easy to start. As a matter of fact, I hand started it 95% of the time after the first start of the day, even at contests. The only parts I ever replaced were glow plugs and maybe a set of bearings. The LONG Bolly tuned pipe was the name of the game with the 120LS. The 145 produced about the same power using just a Bolly muffler. The prop of choice for either engine was the APC 16x14.
As a matter of fact, I have a well used Bully 120LS I need to rebuild with new bearings and an almost new Bully 145 that will be powering the new Zimpro Viper 202 I'm building.
Enjoy!!

Sorry jetmech, but the Bully 120 PR is a side exhaust engine and apparently uses different bearings.
If the engine is the 120 LS rear exhaust or the 145 rear exhaust (size is on the side of the case), You need a 16004 rear and a 6000 front bearing. I prefer an open rear bearing and a Rubber Seal front bearing with the rear seal removed for better lubricaton. The best prices I've found are from http://rcbearings.com.

I think these are the same sizesthe Webra 145-160 engines use.
