Dear classic pattern fan's,
I fly modelairplanes (RC) for 29 years. I made a lot of F3A models and like to have the classic ones. Two years ago I build a Curare 40 and I really loved this plane.
Since a couple of decades I also really liked the shape and flight performance of the Mach 1. I never had a Mach 1 and ordered the plan from Model Airplane News
A lot of work, but I really like to make a plane myself. I had to choice a 4-stroke engine. On my club in the Netherlands you can only fly with 4-stroke or electric.
Noiselevel is (sadly) a big issue in the Netherlands. I don't like electric, so the choice was a 4-stroke.
The very nice and powerfull YS FZ 110 and a 13x11 APC (10.000+ rpm) will give the Mach 1 a good performance.
The Mach 1 must have retracts, so I ordered a set and put it in the Mach 1.
I started building the plane, here are a oouple of pictures :

The Mach 1 is ready, the maiden flight will be in January / February 2015 !

When the Mach 1 has made it's maiden flight I'll let you know how it flies.
Kind regards,

On saturday 21 February the Mach 1 made his maiden flight at Valkenburg Airport in the Netherlands, runway 34.
The Mach 1 starts like a rocket. I had to trim down the plane. Then it flies very sweet.
I got the control throws from Mike Mueller, he was the flying buddy of Norm Page in the early seventies. Very nice to talk with him about the Mach 1.
The control throws I got from Mike were perfect !
I fly some rolls, half reverse cuban eight, inverted flight etc. The Mach 1 flies very great.
After the maiden flight I decided to change the engine downthrust, of the engine, the YS FZ110 is very powerfull. The setting of 0° from the original plan is maybe ok for a twostroke engine. For a fourstroke it needs some downthrust.
When a have more information about the second flight I will post them here.
Kind regards,
Arnoud.
