When I was little (I'm 19 now) my dad always would take me flying with him, and one of his favorite planes was a pattern plane(I think, looked like a pattern plane) called a suprastar I belive it was an early arf, it was mostly blue and white, I still have it(in four pieces) after its demise due to loss of the rx pack in a violent snap roll, then engine stuffed in it was an OS max 46(I believe, been awhile) I think it was intended for .25 size plants, anyway If anyone has any info or anything on this plane, Id really like to know and if possible find one, to buy, suprise him a bit, He had that plane awhile and it had been through one major front end rebuild already, flew great...I always knew it as the supra, but I believe its name is suprastar...so any info is apreciated...thanks...

Are you sure it was not a Supra Fly 25? That was a smaller version of Hanno Prettner's Supra Fly.

I remember an EZ Suprastar from the late 80's. It was the next generation plane that Hanno Prettner designed after the Supra Fly. I only remember a .60 size being offered. Those were both a continuation/ evolution of the Calypso(sp?). Is that the plane you are talking about? Not sure were to tell you to look further, but Hobby Shack( now Hobby People ) was the distributor for them in the U.S. at that time.

yeah, i believe it was an EZ but it was most certainly a .25, the OS max 46 fit it well though, flew awesome, probablly the extra power and wieght had something to do with it comming apart from the hard snap roll, it came down the field at about 100mph inverted wide open, and planted into the very hard dirt, about a 4 inch hole to get the engine out, broke the gears in every servo, engine was all messed up, spinner and prop dissintegrated, aluminum engine mount broke. My dad wouldnt know where to get one or I'd say ssomething to him, I want to suprise him a bit though, that be like meeting an old friend after a few years...

The 1987-89 EZ Supra Star... that was a cool plane... I always wanted one, and found them to be the most attractive of all the Prettner planes. They were pretty rare back when they were being offered, so its going to be tough finding one now. Especially the smaller ones. I recall seeing a 60 sized one for sale a while back in an ad in the "K-factor". You could try a want ad in the same publication to see if any of those guys still have theirs.

E-Z kitted (arf's) of both the 60 size & 25 size SupraStar. The 60 size won a World Championship for Hanno in (I think) 1987. I had a friend that had both, he also put a .45 on the little 25 size one, it flew great for many years. They really needed at least an OS 32 and a 40 wasn't a problem structurally.
I had both an arf & kit built version of Hanno's earier SupraFly designs in 25 size, and a 45 size arf version with a YS 60 that was sooooo much fun.
I agree they will be hard to find, wish they were still available myself.

the Suprastar sold in the UK for £650.00, a staggering amount to pay in the 1980s. i guess it was the start of the era when fliers no longer built their own models.
at the first pattern comp that i ever watched, almost all of the competitors used one, (complete with Yamada 60 2stroke) even in the lower classes.

The K-FACTOR is the monthly newsletter/magazine published by the National Society for Radio Controlled Aerobatics, NSRCA. The NSRCA is the recognized Sig of the AMA dealing with all issues pertinent to the sport of Precision Aerobatics (Pattern). As a newsletter is basically offers information on what's going on in Pattern, nationallyand in your back yard. On occasion you can also find How-To articles written by some of the better pilots/builders in this country. It's a good source of information for Pattern issues and if that's your interest, then you should belong to the NSRCA
