You know guys, this is a great discussion.
I started flying in 1967 with a new fangled propo Kraft system in Jacksonville FL when I was twelve. I got to see Rhett Miller fly (man, he was so good that the whole field clapped when he finished his routine), I read every word in RCM, and I scratched a Taurus at fifteen. I left the hobby for a short time in the early 80's while I served the Uncle, and it looks like I missed a critical time in pattern land.
Since getting back in, I have focused on sport flying, and a little scale, but I find I'm one of only a few guys at the field that actually fly manuevers that a person could tell were planned. This is bringing back a lot of memories of the old days, and it looks like I need to get hot on building this bird ... maybe I can realize that missed dream of competing in pattern!
The advice on the pipe has been critical ... I thought I had a useless engine and would need to invest in a four stroke ... thanks!!

Regards to all

Wow, even Dean Pappas chimed in!!!
And absolutely right! In fact, you'll probably be quiter than most of the 4-strokes at your field, too.
I used to run YS .60Frs in my Deceptions. I ran 10.5x7.5 props and the YS HONKED and so did the Deceptions. I stopped running pylon props when I had aileron flutter in one of my Deceptions. Lasted less than 5 seconds (maybe more like 2 seconds) and ripped out the aileron servo, stripped the gears, broke both aileron pushrods and ripped off one aileron. Fortunately I got it back on the ground safely. The noise of those screaming engines was impressive, but not too healthy. Years of tuning screaming 60s resulted in some high frequency hearing loss in one ear (my tuning ear). Of course now I can't hear my wife with that ear..... so there is a silver lining
I gotta build another Deception myself!

4 Stroke?!@# Ack! Ptooey![:'(][:'(]

Don't swear like that on this forum, it's not good for my ears....

Don't build a classic pattern ship like this and then ruin it with a 4 stroke, that's near to sacriledge.

OK OK!! I got it!! Ancient mystical artifact -- you wouldn't put a four cylinder engine in a 67 Corvette!! I got it!!
Whew!!
