Ballistic Ship... NEEDS ID ?
#1
Would like for the "Classic Pattern" ID guru's to help me ID this aircraft. Looks Sleek and certainly falls under the heading of "Ballistic" lines.
I don't have a clue what the plane is.... But I sure like the lines of it.
Need Help putting Name on it... But it maybe.... "Bolings Ballistic Bullet"!

Tom,
I'd looked at those earlier and although it has some simularity, I think this was about the time, that we started moving the canopy's forward and increasing the lateral area of the fuse ahead of the leading edge of the wing. Too me it looks More in the "Atlanta, Patricia ish" line. but the Canopy and rear of the fuse just ahead of the horizontal Stab look to be almost round.
Again, I'm do appreciate you looking....
Tnx..

Paternguy,
I'm using the old "business card" measuring tool. Guessing the wing is about 63" WS and roughly from the nose (behind the Spinner) to the Rudder hingeline is about 58 - 59". Is that about what your plane used to be?
Engine Side mounted, with pipe running under fuse and wing. Looks to be a fairly thin wing. Judging from the "Tip". Picture doesn't give a good shot of the root.
Vertical is reminisent of the "Curare" can't tell if the Horizontal is flat or with slight anhydral in it?
Do my "rough" measurements correspond to your assesment?

No, mine was much smaller, but then it was a 40-sized pattern plane. Also my plane did not have the transparent canopy. This may be a 60-size version of the same aircraft. Be patient somebody here will know for sure.

That clear canopy looks sooo nice, but I can't remember a plane with those lines and a clear canopy. It does look like a design from the 80s, that tail looks alot like my Atlanta.
Abosultely Beautiful.... wheres the pilot? Find that little guy and ask him!

I enlarged the photo and kind of reminds me of a plane a friend of mine had. I think he had an MK cosmos. It could also be a Yoshioka design, maybe?
Now I'm thinking of the Yoshioka planes.
Anyone have pictures of his designs to share?
I remember I loved his Ursa Major.

DM,
I did as you suggested, I blew the picture up and re "measured" the nose/rudder hinge line... with a larger foto i came up with 54 -55" which is in keeping with the mid 80's moments we were flying. When I look at it in the larger photo, I don't think there is a flat spot on this aircraft so its either FG with the Clear canopy added which I must agree looks suuuuper nice or it was turned on a lathe from Oak and hollowed out! [sm=tongue_smile.gif]
In the larger photo, I see it had a "Gear Door" on the nose! It simply is a sleek design deserves to be brought out of moth balls IF we can give it a name (proper name).
We have honed our "Tomahawk" to a razor edge so we can hack out a proto type of this bird.
Rumor coming out of GA that they "myte" have the ultimate Ballistic Bird coming off the "NEW" design table. We decided, to jump in the frey and see what we can build up.
Your idea about Yoshioka design, maybe right on... I think somebody will eventually recognize it and put the "REAL" name on it.

Ron,
Please either post or send me the information. I join with VintageFlyer, in asking is this Kit still available and if that is a FUSE you own... how is the quality of it? I do LOVE The lines of the fuse... Would love all the Specs on it please.
Tnx..

Here you go. The glass work looks good (no pin holes) and
the fuse weight is about the same as a Tiporare. On the one
I have the fuse will need a some filling of the seam between
the canopy front and the spinner ring. The wing and stab are
per-sheeted with balsa with precut dihedral and anhedral angles.
Here are the converted specs. (may be off a little)
Wing span 62.992 in. (measured 62.5 with tip blocks)
Length 56.692 in.
Area 874 sq. in. (looks more like 674-774)
Weight 7.495 lbs.
Ron
Forgot to add. This is one of two kits that showed up on ebay.
Not sure if it is still available from the maker. Looks like it
should be a good flyer.
