I have recently just looked at this classic pattern forum. Great Forum. Im 35 years old and have recently got the R/C bug again. I used to fly when I was 13. I had a realy great grandfather who sponsored my hobbies. I flew pattern for a short time and entered 1 competition at outr local field. My planes were a Dick Hanson Tiporare and a Great Planes Illusion. Both were equiped with piped Y.S. 60's and rhom air retracts. Man I loved that Tipo screaming across the filed wide open. What a thrill. I has stupidly sold all my R/C planes a few years ago on ebay. I think I got like 125.00 for the Tip and the illusion with engines and pipes. What A fool I was, now I want another one. Does Y.S. still make a 2 stroke .60 motor? Or did everything go to 4 stroke? Also Does Jquid have any of those Ballistic Pattern Association insignias as stickers yet? Sorry for the run on but this forum is giving me the need for some classic pattern speed.

Nope, no more YS 61 2 strokes, and no more OS rear exhaust 61's. There are some options such as Webra, Rossi, MVVS and others...or do like many of us do & search eb*y. YS 60's & 61's come up it seems fairly often.
Two strokes have come back to certain extent in current pattern but it is with the OS 1.40/1.60 and Webra 1.60.

Welcome to the coolest forum on RCU! Tiporare kits and new YS 61 engines can be found on eb*y. They do not come up for bid often; I think there have been two or three in the last year. Pipes and headers can be found at Tower Hobbies. Spring Air retracts are good replacements for the Rom Air retracts but you can also find Rom Airs on eb*y. The Tiporare likes to fly fast and I cannot image one with a 4s.

Hey..I'm kinda in the same boat as you...These guys around here have been a wealth of inspiration and information!!
A guy reminded me of Dub Jett's engines...I had forgot about them...I took a look at his site last night...I'm thinkin' his stuff may be the way to go if I can't come across a YS .61 on e-bay or wherever...
Jett link:
http://www.jettengineering.com/
(Note: I use Mozilla Firefox for my web browser...I couldn't get his site to work...I had to open it with Internet Explorer...Just a head's up...Maybe I need a plug-in or something??)
I'm eying one of the Jett Fire 60L(15000RPM version) for a Bridi Escape...I thought I'd call him for a recommendation when the time comes...Apparently he's very knowledgeable/helpful...
Good Luck in your quest...And Welcome Back!!
BPA sounds Kewl doesn't it!!

Navav,
I just took a look at the Jett web site. Holy s*&#! The signature engines are just beatiful!
I have a couple planes looking for a soul, I think I found them!
thanks for posting your thread last night. I completely forgot about the Jett engines also.
Bad thing about those engines though. When your done flying, you have to wipe them down with a new diaper, because they are sooo pretty, and they deserve to be.... pampered.
Faceman,
8178 was correct that this is the best site around. Did you know you can get a hold of Dick Hanson here? If not, in the regular pattern forum.
I think its awsome to be on a forum with these giants of the hobby.
Also, there are a lot of excellent build threads going on here. Take a look at 8178's MK Blue Angel build. Quite detailed and inspiring.

The 60LX is not suitable for the Escape. Consider the 60LX a "46 on steroids". It is a powerful engine, but it is a .46 size case, and prefers to run with 9 and 10" props.
For the Escape, either a SJ-90L or FIRE-90L would be ideal. These are physically "60" size engines. Although I am not certain if this will meet the BPA rules that are being outlined (requiring 10cc engines).

Thanks guys for al the info. It has been enlightening. I am currently putting together a sig kobra to get back in the air this coming summer. I can't get over how much tings have changed. Thanks for the info about Dick Hanson. My Tipo was one of his and I had sent my Illusion to him to build it. What a nice job he had done on it. I wonder if he would remember it?
