Ballistic Powerhouse--Arrival ! ! !

Dear "Ballistic Brethren", [sm=shades_smile.gif]
Decided to share a bit of joy! I got a phone call earlier today from my friend over on the Northside! (Dub Jett) I jumped in the old pickup truck and headed for the "Big City". Upon arrival, I was presented with absolutely two of the most beautiful pieces of Jewelery I think I've ever seen.
We went back into Dubs test area where he ran both engines and then, presented me with my prizes and I've been drueling over them for most of the day.
Figured, my BPA "Buds" might appreciate looking at least at the Next Engine to go in my "Carolina Aircraft" T2A MKII. We ran the engine Rich on an APC 11 x 9 and it was turning 14000! !
So I'm going to only Hummmm as I type this to the old tune by the Oakridge Boys...... "My Baby is American Made"
Hope you guys enjoy the pictures.... Can hardly wait to get my hands on the T2A MKII and let the Hosses RUN!

Yep, I fly two of Dub's BSE .25's in Open B Combat... unbelieveable power, and able to take a hit, which is very common in combat. BTW, where is Boling? I am in Pasadena. Interested in one of those BPA Curares from Deutschland...

You'll love 'em. I highly recommend the Jetts for ballistic pattern ships. The 90 is a drop in for an OS 61 and is far more powerful. Reliability and ease of use is very good. I've got a 90 bar stock FIRE in a ballistic pattern-like plane (shown in my gallery) and the motor has been a real pleasure to own.

Sparky,
Just a quick note to tell you that Dub's 60 is like a .46 on Steroids. Dub can confirm this when you talk with him, but I don't think Dub makes a True 60 at this time. He makes 76 and 90's and of course larger engines up to 1.2 and smaller as well, but before you commit for a "DB" with Dub's 60 just confirm with him that you will be building a 60 size airplane... JFYI.
Or you can PM Bob27, he of course knows all about Dubs engines.

Sparky,
Normal Lead time for Dub is about 30 days. So if you are interested in the 90L-FIRE then give Dub a Call. He told me he was about to make a production run of 90L FIRE Crankcases. So NOW would be a good time to get on the list. YOU will not be Disappointed!

This is Dub's Website and works best with IE, but my Firefox works OK with it. [Guess I'm just lucky Chuck!!!] [sm=shades_smile.gif]

For those having Firefox trouble, the quickest fix is to right click the red menu on the left and select: "Open Link in New Tab" and then click on the new tab at the top of your browser window.
The Frameset in the Jett web site does not contain ROWS or COLS values in the source code and that's why the frames are breaking with Firefox. I will email the Jett Webmaster and tell them to add these values which should fix the issue.

He seems to have several .60 sized engines on his web site. Both cast and billit in both side and rear exhaust.

Yes, but those are all 45 sized cases, really just high powered 45 sized engines. They are not the same size at all as the OS, YS, Rossi, etc 60's. Much smaller and lighter. For a small, light ballistic ship, they would be perfect. but you would have serious balance issues on a bigger plane.

Only one of these was a 45 case. The rest are normal .60 cases. Weight about 18 ounces as they should. The engines you quoted above are way too heavy.

Are we looking at the same thing?
No.

But I don't know why you would not consider a lighter rear exhaust version, as not a real 60. If it has the power and displacement then it is real.

The only "60" engines available are the 60L and the 60LX (and a few specialized variations for CL or 3D stuff).
These are "46" size engines.... not big blocks. They install in the same footprint as an OS46. They would actually be an excellent choice for the "old" non-schnurle 60 pattern designs like the Intruder, Phx 5, Eyeball, (maybe a compensator or Mach 1) stuff like that where you may have used a ST53, blackhead, bluehead, Veco/K&B, Merco or other muffled/baffled powerplant years ago. The current SJ-60L engines weight about the same as those older type 50-60 engines. The SJ-60L is a real nice engine - with the longer "torque" tuned muffler it turns the snot out of an 11x5 or 11x6. However it will not perform well if you want to spin an 11x7, 11x7.5 or similar (drops out of tuning range). The SJ-60LX turns around 18,000 on a 10x6 or smaller prop... does not work at all with 11" props.
Dub's big block "60" size engines are the SJ-76, SJ-90L, SJ-100L series of engines (side and RE versions, BSE or cast case - as shown above). The rear exhaust versions with the full pipe are very versitile - lots of power, and if you want torque, the pipe can be set a bit longer and they have no trouble with slightly larger props.

I don't understand the light small block .60 sized are not real sixties's and the big block sixties's are 76's through 100's? I am so confused! [sm=drowning.gif]
