I've mentioned several times in others posts I was working on a Curare from MAN plans so I decided I should give you all a look.
I thinned the airfoil to a 13%. I want it to go fast. I also widen the fuse to accomdate a Kraft 16 oz. tank since I have a Jett Fire 90 for it.
Has flaps per the MAN plans. Worked great on my last one in the 70's!
Doing the landing gear currently.
I plan to fiberglass the whole thing. I made it from contest balsa so it is very light.
I will post a few more pictures soon.
I am really looking forward to flying it. I loved my first one back in the 70's.

Wow...That Looks Great!! Please do keep the pics coming!!
As mentioned above...That looks like you are using the MK Bell Crank assy(or similar)?? If so I'd like to defiantly hear how that works out...
Thanks...

Very nice....
was wondering if you built in a bit of a tunnel on the other side of the fuselage to partially accomodate the pipe .... or if you were going to just run the pipe along the fuselage side (stock shape)

Yes, I am using an MK bell crank. I did not want to run individual pushrods. The MK may be messier aero wise, but I will have enough power to overcome that for sure.
I did not create a tunnel. I didn't use one on my last one and it was a fine flyer, so felt no need for the extra work.
I will post a few more pictures as soon as I get out to take them.
Thanks.

Well, as a matter of fact, I will start back on this plane this weekend. got side tracked a little.
I have mounted the stab since, got the retracts fitted. Need to get the rudder control figured out. Then it's time to start glassing.
Will post a picture or two this weekend.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh Babbbbbbbbbbbbyyy!
Your going to LOVE that Jett 90! Be aware, that Dub puts a disclaimer, in the packaging, which warns, that buying only 1 Jett engine is like trying to eat 1 peanut. They become habit forming! ;-)
You will definitely have a Fine Ballistic Bird!
More PICTURES !!!!!!

Looks like a beaut!!! Makes me wish I kept mine; But, after being in a house trailer that was burning, The foam and fiberglass ended up melted and twisted. I have thought of building another one and get back into pattern flying. Have the perfect engine for it too. A Super Tigre series X 61 rear exhaust with tuned pipe.
Good luck,
Bobcat

bobcat10_4 that's interesting about your Curare. My original one had a ST X61 Rear exhaust in it. Good engine and plane combo at the time.
RCBuilder42yrs I am looking forward to trying my Jett. This plane will flat scream with it I bet.

Here are the additional pictures I promised.
Note the unique steering solution. Small strong servos make this possible.
You can also see the plywood insert in the fuse for the MK bellcrank.
Have mounted the stab and the retracts.
All the block in the nose and elsewhere fully hogged out for lightness.

Where does a person get the MK Bell crank? I would like to start using these in my pattern planes.

Hi nxtdoor. I'm in love with the Curare. One of the earliest MAN issues I bought, I believe in 1976, had a picture on the cover of Hanno Prettner flying the Curare in knife edge. I dreamed of building one with a piped Rossi .60 and Rhom-air retracts. A couple years later I bought at a local RC club auction in Texas a set of wing and stab root/tip templates and a canopy plug. They sat in a paper bag for many years until I read a thread somewhere on the internet several years ago about the Curare, where a gentleman stated he wanted to build one. I sent the individual an email and told him I had the templates and the plug and offered to let him use them if he would cut me some wing cores. I ended up sending him the templates and the plug, along with a copy of a set of plans I ordered from MAN, and I eventually got a set of foam cores and a canopy back from him. He must still have the templates and plug. Since then I've also acquired a Rossi .60 and I've recently tidied up my workshop such that, after more than 10 years hiatus, I'm now itching to build something out of balsa. So now I have a set of plans, a set of foam cores, a canopy, a Rossi .60 rc, and a clean workbench. Next up is to order up some balsa and get going. You wouldn't happen to have a material list, would you?
Anyway, I thought you might find my story somewhat interesting, and I wanted to let you know that I'll follow your build with great interest. Enjoy!
Regards,
Mark

Great story Mark, and you will love building and flying that Curare.
You may or may not know this, but a company on this forum is making a laser-cut short kit of the Curare. I plan to build one next year.

Man this is a great thread to run across! I just purchased an old MK kit for the Curaure after looking for one for at least ten years! I can't wait to receive it and get started on it. Probably will just duplicate the kit and keep the original. So who has the short kits and what retracts are best used in this airplane? Any and all information is appreciated.
