Looks like a "Compensator" or "A6 Intruder" copy. Dave.

Wow! This is a really nice looking plane.

I cheated by looking up the designer, so I won't put the name to it.

I finally got a tattoo. It reads, "Born too loose."

Ever see the movie where the biker girl is reading aloud the tattoos on the biker boy friend's back and says, "South Kadota"? I laughed until I cried. Can't remember the name of the movie, though.

Back on topic. That is a beautiful model. The tail assembly reminds me of the Deception by Jim Kimbro.

Revenger was in RCM and used a canopy more like the Dirty Birdy.

It looks sorta like a Mach 1 take-off. Especially the rudder

Is that a fiberglass turtle deck on top the fuse?

It's a giant balsa plank!

Thanks for the link, grotto2.

New to RCU and got here via Google trying to find info on CG location on a Compensator I just pulled out and dusted off many years of dust. It is in great shape and I have pulled out old pro-line servos etc and putting in new servos, 2.4 etc but I did not mark CG back when I built it and have no info or plans. I now keep all that but wasn't that smart back then. I could figure it or get close but sure would like to know what the good starting place is if anyone knows ? I want to fly it in vintage pattern so don't want to ding it up with way off CG. thanks

A safe starting point is 25% of the average wing area.

Hi mGang,
Remember George's blown-up sized Configurator with the Webra geardrive back in the early '80s? It was called the Big One. We published it in Flying Models.

I am hoping you mean 25% of mean aerodynamic chord, not area...

Here's a detail of the plans. It's about 4 3/8" back at the fuselage side.

Not to get into a big discussion of geometry, but I meant 25% of the wing area in front of the CG, and 75% behind it. On a straight wing, that would be 25% of the root chord. On a tapered wing, you need triangle or trapezoid area calculations.

I seem to recall he flew that with the geared webra, one of the OS gear drive .61 engines, and later with the 4-c 120.

Didn't George who also had that tiny version he carried around in a briefcase ?

Compensator CG - Thanks for the info - I am off to shop to balance new gear going in now that I have a good target to start from. I am going to go to a separate servo for nose retract instead of the old 3 armed servo in wing and fishing that nose rod up front with clevis to hook up, looks like a Hitec 125 flat glider aileron servo will work well.
