Default Phoenix 8

I'm thinking of buying a Phoenix 8 from Aztec and just wondered if anyone had any experiance with the kit and plane. I'm looking more for opinions on how well the plane flies. Are there any bad habits or bad couplings with the plane. I realize that each progressive Phoenix was a compomise on the one previous and the changes made were probably to correct a flight characteristic that Don wanted to change.

Everyone seems to talk about the Phoenix 5 and 6 so I have to wonder if there is something about the 8 that most pilots don't like.

In response to navav2002's post regarding Aztec and the Cursor, I have an update.

George Truett replied to my email query concerning his Phoenix 8. He stated he was in the Middle East and would not be returning home until at least April, at which time he hopes to be able to crank out some kits.

So we will have to wait a while for those beautiful planes.

I'll gladly wait...Just makes me wanna buy the Summit III that much more...

Have Fun...

Hi Bob:
I beleieve there was an issue with the placement and size of the canopy. It was to be placed a little further reaward and also was to be a little taller. Seemed top help the KE flight and some stability issue. Thus the Phoenix 10 Don Lowe is currently flying.
This is if what I remember is corect.
I had a Phoenix VII and made some of these chamnges then, it helped tremendously.
All in all, I liked the way it flew. Steady, fast and very smooth but responsive....oh to have another one.

Excellent aircraft. On my list to build after the Vertigo II.

Best regards,
Robert

Let me say here that I have conducted business with George Truett, and he is a really great guy.

The P-8 flies great (I never owned one, but got a few flights on one built by a fellow club member back in the early '80s): no bad habits; rolls extremely well (very axial). The only problem was the minimal prop clearance on our grass field. You won't be disappointed!
