Default the database idea

Whatever happened to that historical database idea that was floated about earlier? With all of these plans suddenly available for download, I think it would be great to have not only info about planes and pilots, but have some historical plans available as well.

I was just thinking about that. The idea was to set up a Wiki site where people could join, log in and add/edit entries as well as upload files.

It would be like Wikipedia, except each entry would represent a classic pattern design. There could be historical text, setup info, photos, bits about the designer, etc., and, of course, the plans.

The nice thing about the Wiki format is that multiple people can contribute data and photos to any entry. It can continually grow as opposed to a static web site that one person has to maintain and update.

So, if you search for Dirty Birdy, for example, a page will come up with everything you'd want to know about this particular design, plus links to other designs by Bridi, etc.

It would, in effect, be an online Classic Pattern Encyclopedia with photos, videos and plans files. I think it's a great idea.

Here's a link to an open source (free) Wiki package:

We just need someone with a server.

I've not forgotten...Apparently I'm at the Gurus Mercy...If he ever has the chance I'll nab him for sure though...

Concept is good, I think a lot of people would help, if they only knew how.

I'm not exactly a "noob" when it comes to computers...But I don't claim to be an expert either!! I'm pretty familiar the hardware end of things...And then I've spent allot of time messing with Windows (Tweeking ect)...But this Linux stuff is a totally different animal **For Me**...I have allot of learning to do that's for sure...So far it's been like [:@] [:@] [:@]

I wish I had started messing with Linux a long time ago like I had planned...he he

So are you a hardcore overclocker? That's some serious cooling.

The easiest to configure Linux distribution I'm familiar with is Fedora (Red Hat). It's also free:

Stilletto660,
I have started a photo-base of classic pattern planes. I have been collecting pattern plane pictures for quite a while and decided to put them on our website and share them with the rest of the RC community.
Thanks
