Default Curare 20

Hi,
I'd like to get some feedback on a plane I finished (again) last year. It's a Curare 20 built from an MK kit, powered by a Webra .32/Hatori pipe/APC 9x7, and has MK retracts. I refer to it as my "pocket rocket", as it REALLY goes!! If I'm brave or crazy enough, would this be a legal ship for an SPA event? Did I mention it's FAST?? I know, it needs some red striping tape as a finishing touch....

That is a good question. I can't see why it wouldn't be - but then again...

Are those fixed gear, or retracts?

If you want to have a bit more vertical, you might consider using a 10x4 prop. I would imagine that top speed will be no problem with any prop you could use.

***I just saw where you were using MK retracts. Danged memory!

Nope, not SPA legal with the tuned pipe. You could switch to a Jett or Ultrathrust muffler and then it would be legal if you keep the gear down. At least I think it would be OK, guys are resizing everything else to fit four stroke 90's, so I can't see why a downsized Curare would not be legal.

[Drool] What a beauty, that brings back memories. I did learn to fly on an MK Curare 20 (mine had an Enya engine) about 10 years ago, because I got into the hobby by buying a whole bunch of used gear from this guy that was getting out of it, and the only plane that was ready to go in there was the Curare 20. Not exactly a docile trainer, but it made me get my act together post haste. No problems taking off or in the air, landings however were hairy for a beginner (you learn to make repairs that way).

It really screamed along. That plane got me hooked, I was never satisfied with any other plane until I got a 60-sized plane about a year later. This is just what I need to get fired up and complete my 40 sized curare (scratch built with foam wings) that I started like 8 years ago! I wonder what it would take to get MK to rekit these beauties?

You are absolutely CO-RRect. I'm so used to seeing Curares with tuned pipes, that one just slipped by.

I have no idea nor do I care if it's SPA legal (no offence, we just don't have this class in Israel). What I do know is:
IT IS SOOOOOOOO COOL[:-]!!!.

Very nice wook! The SPA uses the “looks Like a Duck” rule. Just tell them that the pipe is a muffler relocation device and the retracts are flex mount landing gear and you should be good to go. :-)
