New to pattern, is SPA the only Classic pattern event?

I'm new to R/C, new to Pattern, but like the older designs and am an old guy.
Any way, I'm in SoCal and have a neat old Sterling King Cobra which I recall Maxey Hester campaigned in Scale and Pattern in the 60's. I noticed the legal designs on the SPA website didn't include it, so I wonder if there are other meets involving Classic Patternships, where and when the meets are taking place, etc.
Any help is appreciated.

There is also the BPA (Ballistic Pattern Association) which is just cranking up...
http://www.ballisticpattern.com/
To my knowledge BPA isn't very widespread at this time...I doubt there is anything much happening out there in SoCal...I do know there are a few fellows who stop by here from time to time...One is in Ramona and there is two guys down in Chula Vista....I know it's a 2+ hour hike from LA to San Diego...But at least there seems to be a little interest out there anyway...
Maybe you guys could ban together and "Bring" the BPA out there...I know the dude in Ramona was all hot and heavy about getting BPA stuff going at one time...But I think the wildfires kinda changed those plans...I think he's a speed guy maybe like a Quickie 500 type?? I don't really know for sure...His screen name is Razor_RCU...He's been here in this forum recently so maybe he's regaining his interest??
There are two dudes down in Chula Vista...
Hope you guys can get something going and Have Some Fun!!!
Maybe you can even draw the Flyin' Hawiian with his Aurora to your contest...

That's the P-63, right? (not to be confused with the Sig King Kobra) That plane is definitely legal for SPA. It fits in what they call the Antique class. If it's not on the list you can email the SPA and request it be added to their web site list.

Thanks guys. Nice to know that it is legal.
Too bad that the events are so regional.
But at least there are a couple of guys around to contact.
Thanks for the help and nice to see so much activity on this great site.

There's an approved plane list along with descriptions of the Class III maneuvers. Your airplane is eligible for pattern and scale.

to have a California chapter or two, but it has to start somewhere. If you can get a few of your buddies interested, it could be the beginning of the Southern California Chapter.Let us know

Thanks Duane,
This fall I'm going to gen' up my R/C program and will be seeking out some like minded guys in the area. Who knows, maybe once I start flying the King Cobra some people in the area might get enthused.
I also inherited two unbuilt fibreglass UFO's from Don's Custom Models, Huntington Beach, CA, that were sitting in a buddies hangar for years. So at least I have a couple designs to fly while I get going in Pattern.
Will be busy with CLPA events through the Nats this summer, but will be wrecking a couple of Sig Kadet's right after so I can get to flying the Pattern ships.
I've never been much of a leader member of anything, but we'll see how it goes and will keep you in mind for a reference once I get started.
Thanks again, all of you, for the help.
