I just finished one of my pattern ships.
It's 9 PM here in Sweden but I just had to try this nice OPS i bought second hand for just $100.
It has perry carb and backplate with perry pump, OPS elbow and Robbe carbon pipe.
I ran it with a Zinger 11x7,5 and 80/20% FAI fuel.
It was to dark to get a tach reading and I did not get it up on the pipe.
But to morrow or Saturday I will get some readings.
What do you guy's think it would turn??
P.S it's a readhead 60 size engine with unknow run time.

Hey Martenson,
Nice looking plane..[sm=thumbup.gif] Please pardon the dumb question, but I am not familiar with it. What kind of plane is it..
. From the looks of it, I bet it flies like it's on rails. Please give us a flight report and let us know..

it might be an OPS 60 Speed SPA/RCA pattern engine, similar to the one i picked up NIB for $200 with perry pump backplate, perry carb, ops pipe, headers, pipe mounts and a few other things the seller threw in. i have seen an OPS engine list on the speed forum showing what this engine will turn. i'll look for it.

hrrcflyer, sorry I don't know what this plane is, my dad buildt it in 1979 or 1980 I think.
It has a glas fuse and sheeted foam wings, I have restored it with new hinges and good paint rubbing and waxing.
I put in the OPS radio and finished it.
dhal22, My OPS is FISE and I think it was intended for pattern.
Pictures will come tonight of both the engine and plane.

Martenson, I am envious of your building skills. Particularly when it comes to applying the finish. Very, very beautiful.
However, I am stumped as to which model that is?
I'll bet your OPS will swing that lumber at 14 - 14.250 when the pipe and needles are set for perfect flying. He's running FAI fuel, so I don't expect anything near 15k rpm, but I'm not expert in this area, that's for sure.
***I just read the later posts and I realize that your Dad built the model. Well, I'm still envious of you for owning it and for having such a talented father.

Ed I inhereted my dads planes when he passed away this spring, and yes he was a great builder and painter, he also restored old motorcycles and cars on his spare time.
To bad I did'nt get a chance to learn from him, we stopped building and flying in 1987 and I started it again 2 years ago, it's just as riding a bike, I'm 10 times better pilot now then when I left in 87.
So right now I'm trying to learn some of this stuf by my self, like glassing wings, thats my next goal to try.
I think I will have to make a new post here about building skills.
Take care

Now I'm back from the flyingfield and I flew 2 times today.
This was my first time with this bird, and it flew awesome.
However I could not get the OPS up on the pipe, could only get 13900-14000 rpms on the ground.
In air it stalled after 6-7 min.
Now when it has more run time I can hear the bearings are bad, but thats not the problem.
I need more time tuning.
The knife edge was awsome, from horisontal flight I might be able to make a BIG knifedge loop, I will try the later.
We have a wild bore problem at our feild, the are destroing our grass runway
Now for some pics, maybe some one can finaly identify this bird.
Take care.

Martenson,
Congrats on your successful flights. I can only imagine the pride you must have felt in flying a plane your father built. I bet your father was watching over you from above with a BIG smile on his face. May you have many more years of good memories while flying the plane.
BTW, even with the additional pictures, I still cannot recognize the plane, but I'm sure someone here on RCU will let us know what it is.
