Default JERRY NELSON PEGASUS-WHERE DOES IT BELONG???

I just received a set of full sized plans for the Jerry Nelson Pegasus. Does anyone know if this is a "Classic Pattern" plane? Did anyone fly it. I am considering building the plane. Just curious if anyone has personal experiences.

Added Feb 15: I have a set of plans but am not sure they are complete. If anyone has a set and would be willing to entertain a couple of questions, PM me. Thanks

airbusdrvr,
The Pegasus is an SPA-approved plane so it qualifies as "classic". I think it was designed somewhere in the late 50's...~1957.
Here is the list: http://www.seniorpattern.com/planes.asp

Nice![sm=thumbs_up.gif] It's also good for Vintage RC Society.

I have been looking over the plans and have noticed several interesting points. The forward fuse bulkhead, F1, is installed at an angle and then a shim is installed on the forward side of the bulkhead to give the correct engine angle. The bulkhead could just as easily be mounted in the correct orientation. Fuse formers F-2, F-3 and F-7 which are the second, third and fifth fuse formers( F-5 and F-6 are part of the turtle deck) are not shown on the plans(shape or outline). Planes of this vintage often had the wings held in place with rubber bands as this one. But most interesting is that the stabilizer assembly(horiz and vert) is also held in place with rubber bands. The Bonner Duramite servos shown in the plans are huge by today's standards. They are a whopping 3 1/2" long. The elevator trim system is a very interesting design and is pictured below.

airbusdrvr,
What are the specs for the Pegasus? wingspan, wing area, length, weight, engine, etc.
I want to add it to my [link=http://www.trentonrcflyers.com/pattern/classicpatternlist.htm]Classic Pattern List[/link]

Thanks

The Pegasus is a great airplane. My father built several in about 1960-61, and then I did one in the late 1990's which I still have. It flies very smoothly and with that big wing it's very easy to land. You might also look at the Qualifier......also by Jerry Nelson...similar but low wing and it also flies very well. A good .45 is plenty of power for either one.

If anyone has a set of plans for this plane, PM me. I would like to compare to see if my plans are complete. I have some doubt.

Wow, another one!!

I had only heard of the Sultan and seen the Pegesus (sp!!). My dad was part of the "Bay Area thing" that included the Sunnyvale Pioneers and other clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Somewhere..... I have pics from the 'ol Turlock Fly-in with Jerry.

Jerry Nelson's Pegasus was published in the April 1960 issue of American Modeler. The plans are on two pages. My copy of the magazine is in a bound copy of the whole year or I'd offer to copy them. It used a Torpedo 45 and Bonner Duramite servos (reeds).
It's good for SPA Antique and also for VR/CS "contests".

I'll have the bound 1960 issues of the magazine available for purchase at Perry next week. I'm trying to clean out my office.
