Daddy Rabbit

A couple of years ago Raindave sent me some plans for the Daddy rabbit. I made up a number of sets of the plans and sent a couple of sets to my friend/pen pal/building buddy in NY, Dan4. He built it right away and I had too many things going on, a move to another state, planes for customers and friends. Dan kept at me so this year I pulled out a set of the plans and opened up my wood boxes and went at it. Dan talked me into building it as stock to the plans as I could force myself to do, I must say I haven't made too many changes. I still have a long ways to go but it's getting closer to finish sanding and glassing every day. Today I managed to gouge out the inside of the turttle deck. I did install a micro servo for the throttle and a micro servo for the front steering. I have the front steering servo slaved to the rudder. It was just easier then running more linkage. These shots were just taken yesterday to show Dan what I was up to, the controls are just being held loose with the hinges.
Thanks a bunch for the plans Dave, just wanted you to know they weren't wasted, just took me a little longer then usual.

The plans I have just say designed by Jim Whitley and drawn by Ken Schneider, 1966. Didn't know there were other models of this plane. Smart ass Dan did sent me an article from 1966 with Jim telling about this plane, why he designed it the way he did and why he wanted it to be on the heavy side of life. I will get a fire under Dan to maybe post that artical, very insightful.
I did manage to get a lot of the little stuff done on the plane today, things no one would notice too much in this day and age but they take a lot of time. Should have it all framed and maybe sanded this week sometime? I'm not really in any hurry.

Gene,
She's a beauty! One question though- why didn't you just buy the ARF? : )

Thanks, you're right of course, I knew the Daddy Rabbit isn't available as an ARF, I was just teasing my good friend Gene because he's one of the only builders that I know. Your Daddy Rabbit is beautiful, I see the wings are covered, is the fuselage also or is that painted? I built my DR with fully sheeted wings and then 'glassed and painted everything, it is a brick but boy does it fly nicely!

One of the many cool things about flying “Classic Pattern” aircraft is there are very few available in ARF form and one would hope it stays that way.

i may not have one of the dozens and dozens of 40% edges or sukhois at the field but my classic birds are unique. not many of these at the field.

Dan - My DR is covered with Monokote. I don't know the exact weight, but it is pretty lite. If winds get past 8-10 she gets real jittery! Last fall at the Hotlanta Antique Meet we were flying in 20 mph +. That was an adventure, but we had FUN, FUN, FUN.
Sorry about missing the humor of the ARF - DUH! LOL

Wind has been blowing a lot this spring so on calmer days I'm busy flying or doing repairs on other planes so the DR has taken a back seat to everything else. I finally got it primmed and sanded, came up with what I thought was a very cool paint pattern. Then I came back here and looked at the post Shiney put on with photos of his plane.
So much for my best laid plans!! This is the first time this has happened to me but Shiney's DR is almost an exact covering job as what I had lined out for painting!!
Same red and yellow in the same places. Not sure if I will just make minor changes or go with a complete new design and lay out?? Maybe add a bit more air brush work??
Now if the wind will quit blowing for a few days so I can use the garage for a couple of days I can start squirting on some color, after I figure out what I'm going to do with it now.[

Shiney must be another old control line builder??
