The Tipo's

We watched the last Tipo ARC being auctioned off. It went for $504.00, plus postage, built for someone famous, back in the day.
And this ............... There was another Tipo kit only, previous to this one that went for $377.00, so not much difference. This does not mean anything, except these kind of sales will drive up the price of what some of us may have just sitting around.

Crank,
thanks for your PM. Glad you caught and enjoyed the Pico thread. As you can see it was a for fun build - not really serious stuff. I haven't been able to get much shop time lately to continue on its big brother but it's not far from the finishing stage as I'm in the process of assembly
The prices of classics seem to be increasing almost exponentially on auction. I don't know if this is due to the growing interest (is it really?), the rarity of the kits (some not so rare) or even the state of economic affairs. Whatever the case, the interesting fact is that we classic fans prefer a vintage unbuilt kit over a finished model - even if it was just built from a rare kit and the price of a finished model is typically lower than that of the kit despite all the work and the finishing materials and accessories.
Not that I'm really interested in "kit speculation" as a collector but the lack of time to get the kits in one's shop built might just result in vintage kits ending up having to be eventually sold for a tidy sum. Whatever the case, I just hope to get to build what I have in store in due time.
That post wasn't very coherent - I probably ought to pack it in tonight.
David.

I guess, for some people, the price doesn't matter too muchif it means having one more chance to sit down to a bench and work on a beautiful plane that they remember some 30-40 plus years back.
Its also nice to see these old treasures finding a way back to the field where not only the owner can enjoy them, but the newer generation can also see them for the first time.
With the growing numbers of interest in these planes, who knows what the next five years will bring. I'm overwhelmed sometimes at what has become of the classic pattern planes in these last 4 years! Thanks Everyone for being the driving force in that! and 8178 for getting this special section here for us!
