Does anyone know if there's any vintage pattern "footage" in existance?
I was wondering if there might be some old 8mm or something floating around with footage from some 1960's or 70's NATS competitions. You know, original Phil Kraft style flying like we discuss here? Reason I'm asking is I thought it would be neat to put together a retro montage like this guy does with vintage airliner footage-> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyi_4x673H0 and 60's car racing footage-> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OociW8qT_s4 Any ideas?

I have 8mm film of the New England Championships in 1962 or 63.
Some of Hal deBolt flying his Interceptor.
I have no idea how to transfer 8mm to something more usable.

THAT would be awesome to get on digital media. There's definately a way to do it, my sister found a bunch of 8mm in our parent's attic and had it all put on DVD, so I'll ask her how she did it.

In the early part of the Ed Kazmirski's Taurus thread there are links to two different segments that show the 1963 FAI Championship in Belgium.
Later on in the same thread (look for a dates in June of this year), is a discussion by Chuck Winter where he put 16MM footage from three of the Detroit Invitationals on DVD to make a 30 minute movie. This event was one of the premier events in the 60s, with many of the top pilots, (pioneers) in attendance.
Jim Kirkland, De Bolt, Don Lowe, Ed Kazmirski, Tom Brett, Jimmy Grier and others. They even do "limbo" and "combat" with their soon-to-be-classic planes.

I dont have any quite that old, but I bet I have a shoebox somewhere with some poorly shot hand-held flying from the late 1970s or early 1980s. I will have to scrounge around a bit. Might have a video tape or two from 1983-85 time period if its not all melted together
