Thanks Jim for the reply! Just got back in the hobby a couple of years back and had no idea they were still available in a kit form still. Was going to have a short kit made from a the owner at Eureka Mfg.That's as close as I thought I was gonna get. Thanks again, Don

I think $170 for a UFO kit is well ridiculous. That's $50 more for a just adding 3" to a Dirty Birdy. Since it's just astretched outDirty Birdy with an anhedral stab why notjust buy the Dirty Birdy kit for $50 cheaper and just make the fuse sides 3in longer and make the regular stab anhedral. Bam! UFO.
Ya the wings are a little differnet. But come on $50 dollars more when a DB is $120. Ridiculous! The XLT is only $145 that's only $25 more. Really!.
Purists with money to waste chime in here.

Don,
Moneys aside, I can send you a copy of the plans if you'd like. Send me a PM with your email address.
Unless you want to do some custom internal structural changes and slight planform modifications (like the UFO 25 developed in this thread for example
), scratching is just fine. Where a laser excels is at producing complex shape formers with various cutouts. Anything irregular is nice to have laser cut.
You should check out Ralph's (R_G) and Dave's (Rainedave) UFO builds here on the forum - both superb build threads.
I hope this helps.

Thanks I appreciate all the help on this matter, looking forward to getting this plane in the air again. Here is a picture of mine when I flew Pattern competitively in the late 70's. It would be great to get a set of plans to get started. I checked out those threads by the way and enjoyed looking at that.
Looks like there are still people out there that still enjoy designing and building planes as much as I do!
Thanks David.

Quintessential 70's photo!
Nice vintage paint scheme too. I like that metallic green - might even do a variation on the theme on my current Dirty Birdy 40 redesign & build and then some variation on that on the UFO 25. You'll find no shortage of excellent builders and pilots in this forum!
Thanks for the kind comments regarding the redesign work. Ralph's proto build thread has also just gone hot. Hopefully we'll see a little more on it in the coming days. For my part, I've been enjoying redesigning classics too much to get my UFO 25 built. The latest design is a 120 sized Super Chipmunk with pattern moments specifically designed for e-power (~1800W). I am also, as of very late, working on a tandem redesign & build of a 25 sized Tiporare. Cut out two fin and rudder kits last night so first those, then the foam core stabs and wings while I wait for a laser cut fuse kit to be made. I'm doing a pair of them - one electric and the other with a piped Webra 32. Trike e-tracts on both. They'll be uber cool!
But I digress... If you would like a copy of Bridi's UFO plans, send me a personal message or post your email address here so that I can do so.

Alternatively, you could buy a glass fuse/foam core basic kit from Don at RCAiir. Naturally, that's a very different type of build.

Why don't you contact Bridiairplanes. They can supply the kit and plans for $170.00.

Seems like a good deal to me.

They do need to rework their canopies though. They are not even close to want they should be.

They made the XLT/Escape glass deck. I'm surprised they didn't do the same for the Dirty Birdy/UFO.
