Default Vintage pattern planes

Looking at the infamous auction sight one would be led to believe that there is quite a market for these fiberglass fuse planes. For the life of me I can't understand why someone with the skills to manufacture them doesn't step up and start selling them again. At the prices we see it would seem there is a nice profit to be made. HINT HINT!! Get busy you guys, I am waiting.

I would venture to say that the reason they get the prices they do is because a few select modelers are dying to get there hands on them. If there were bunchs of them lying around, the prices would be far lower and would they really sell? I would like to think so, but time will tell. I am sure you have seen a few pics of the upcoming Phoenix 7 from Hangar 9 here in the Classic Pattern forum. We will have to wait and see what the sales numbers are really like. Of course all of you might not believe this, but some of those old timers want a pretty fair penny in royalties for there designs. They are as bad if not worse than Lockheed Martin or Cessna/Textron when it comes to royalties.

True as spoken. I am dismayed that there is no statute of limitations as in drugs etc. You would think a small royalty is better than nothing, which is what they are getting now. It's a shame companies are chosing to require royalties after so many years have passed. Welcome to the greedy 21 century.

When it comes to royalties on the classic pattern birds, it is not companies but the actual modelers/designers of the bird. Lets just say that Don Lowe was in this for the modeler, and not for the profits. This is one of the reasons the Hangar 9 Phoenix 7 came to life, not to mention its incredible heritage as well. Our own kind believe their 30 year old designs are worth large amounts of money. We at Horizon will pay the royalties if the numbers make sense. Keep in mind that although we (you and I) believe there are thousands of guys looking to buy these, that probably is not the case.
