Default Crusader, Ralph Brooke - plan and MAN Feb 1965 article?

Hi,

Just ordered a short kit from Lazer Works of Crusader pattern planeby Ralph Brooke (World Champ 1965 with this model).
Lazer Works do not have the Model Airplane News plans for Crusader but they mention it isplan nr FPS 02651.
I searched the PDF file with plans at Model Airplane News Plans directory but did not find it (searched for crusader, ralph, brooke
and 02651 but no hit). I also manually looked for the plan on each page in the PDF.

Anyone know where to find the MAN plane for Crusader?

The construction article was in Model Airplane News February 1965 - anyone have that article in electronic format?

regards,
Bo

Michael,

And you have a nice picture:

Edit, it is one of the two planes with white wings, the other with white wings I do not know the name!

Michaelj2k,

Thanks for the info.

I have now ordered the Crusader drawing from AMA Plans service, http://www.modelaircraft.org/plans.aspx
The Crusader plan has AMA # 23860 and cost is $ 24.

Hi,

I have now got the Crusader drawing from AMA plans services - it was a huge drawing.
The Crusader short kit from Lazer Works is on it's way to me now also, I will post some pictures of the short kit when it arrives.

Never thought I'd see a set of Crusader plans up for grabs. They are very rare indeed.

The MAN Crusader plans are the same as AMA plan as far as I can see, the difference is that MAN plan are on two sheets, on AMA plan it is a very long singel sheet with whole wing and whole fuselage drawn in once piece.

Hi,

Crusader short kit from Lazer Works has arrived. Very good quality short kit.
The short kitwas delivered very well boxed and all parts wrapped in plastic.
I will make some measurments against the Crusader drawing later and then we will se if any of the laser cut parts is not accurate compared to the drawing.
Some pictures below for those interested.

Bo,

That kit looks wonderful. I hope you will have time to share your build with us. I have a set of plans that I bought in the 70s and have considered building the Crusader over the years. I had the good fortune to live in Seattle when I first started flying RC in 66, and was able to see Ralph fly many times. Needless to say his Crusader was very popular in the NW. He was a master designer, builder and a ferocious competitor. Ferocious is a mild term for his competitive drive. Sadly he lost his eye sight to diabetes and could not fly in his later years.

Bo,

How did the parts match the plans?

I have used Lazer works on a short kit before(Dick Sarpolus Energizer) and I can attest to the quality and accuracy to the parts per the plan. I would never hesitate to use them again and for the price, you just can't find anyone better.
