Cosmos 60

I have the plans from the MK kit. The cost for copying and shipping (rolled, in a tube) should not exceed $25. My local Kinkos (or all of them) recently increased the price on large sheet copying by about 50% (ouch). Send me a PM with your address if you are interested.

I can't answer your question with complete authority, but I will say 'YES'. I know I can scan large size plans at Kinkos and have the plan put into some type of file then loaded on some form of storage media (typically a cd or similar). What is the optimum file type for CAD software?

flywilly,
Best is to have Your Cosmos 60 drawing scanned to TIF file format with LZW or G4 compression (to keep file size down). Scan to greyscale 400 dpi and all details will be preserved very well. Then You can send the file to me and I can produce a PDF file (with Adobe Acrobat 9) for you. I have scanned rather many drawings this way and then produced PDF and it works fine. If You want to have a look at a sample file I have of MK Super Sicroly II, MK Atlas 60 etcI can e-mail you that and then You can decide if that is good enough for a Cosmos 60 also.

Flywilly,
The new term for blueprints is reprographics. You usually get a better deal at reprographics company. I can get 8 scans up to 7' by 3' for $20 and $5 to $15 dollars to place on mine or there media respectively. I use a 1 Gig USB drive and have them transfer the scans to it. They also have a feature where I can download the scans via the internet.
I concur with BEM on the file format. As far as the file format most scanners native format isa TIF file with LZW compression These are generally 400dpi and are less than 4 megs in size. The only problem I have with PDF's is that there harder to get into Autocad.
I did a online search for your area and came up with these.
1. Dts Reprographics -
(804) 285-4800 - 6403 Dickens Pl, #B, Richmond, VA..
2. A & E Reprographics Supply -
(804) 355-8601 - 1400 N Boulevard, Richmond, VA..
3. A & E Reprographics Supply -
(804) 523-1771 - 10 S 6th St, #101, Richmond, VA.
I would like a digital copy of the Cosmos 60 too, if that's all right.

Thanks for the information, guys. My real objective is to produce a disc (or discs) with the complete collection of MK plans (maybe Yoshioka and a few other Japanese plans, too). I have almost all the MK plans with a few exceptions including the Thunderbird 60 and the Super Sicroly 60. The latter kit I was unaware of until I saw photos of Bo's kit here recently (and of course I was a little jealous [:-]). I need to look into the cost as this would be more than 50 plans (including the 40 sized versions - I do not have any of the 20 sized versions, unfortunately). It would also be a significant pain in the a** as all the plans are in kit boxes.
I have more motivation now that I have some 'direction'.

Will,
Great to here you still plan to make the disc as I have been waiting patiently to get a copy. Too bad I live so far away I would have volunteered to take the plans to get them scanned.

Hi Bryan,
Yes, plan to, but not rushing to get it done. The piston/liner deal was an interesting lesson. I did finally sell all that I wanted to, but it took more time than I expected, plus some who committed to buy backed out. That was OK as others purchased the sets, but I didn't want to sell before I was sure the original (potential) purchaser wasn't going to buy.
The plans disk(s) I'm just going to make (no pre-orders) and hope for the best. The good part is I can make as many copies as I want once I get the masters made. The pistons/sleeves were pretty much a one-time deal.
