Anyone know anything on a plane called Papillion??
Here are the measurements:
Fuse Length: 58.5"
Wingspan: 72"
Chord Root: 12.5"
Chord Tip: 12.5"
Weight: approx 9lbs
What sorta engine would you think to power it?? I'm thinking it may be a little large for a .61 rear exhaust..Any Comments??
Notice in the picture of the bottom of the wing the sticker which appears to say 1971 R/C World Championships...This plane is not of that era is it?? It has a pipe tunnell and modern looking retracts so I kinda figured late 80's to early or mid 90's...
Maybe a YS 120 for power?? I see what appear to be two fuel dots on the side of the fuse which is how I set my YS engines up...One dot for fuel and one to vent..Just an observation..
The cowling is so hacked up I can't envision what type of engine would have been in there...Maybe more than one over time?? The round cut out on the bottom of the cowl initially had me thinking it might have had a .61 rear exhaust mounted inverted with the pipe running down the belly...Then I got the information about the size and I'm wondering if it's too big for a .61 two stroke?? So maybe a YS 1.20 with a pipe?? I dunno...

Planes aside, Papillon (1973) is one of the more famous classic films in history. Starring Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen, it is the real life tale of Henri "Papillon" Charriere (McQueen) who is wrongly convicted of murder and sent to a prison on an island off the coast of Guiane (French Guiana - North of Brazil). He attempts to escape several times from the prison despite several failed attempts and extended periods of solitary confinment. One path to freedom involves jumping off a 300 ft cliff into a rocky and stormy ocean - what appears to be certain death...
Although I don't know the details of how he eventually regained his freedom, he did leave the island. Many years ago, my father had the pleasure of meeting him in French Guiana or Surinam - I can't recall.

Re: my Papillon- I have an O.S. .91 RZ-H heli engine which I converted to an airplane engine by adding the drive washer and prop nut. This engine was perfect for the plane because it has rear exhaust which, when installed in the plane, will sequence the header and pipe right into the provided cradle beneath the plane.
About 5 weeks ago, I called MAC PRODUCTS (http://www.macspro.com/prodline.asp) to order the header (part no. 3901). The problem is, after calling twice to see if it has been mailed, I'm not sure that I will ever see the header?
Do you know any other source from which I may get the header to fit the engine?
