Default Aurora 45

Some of you may recognize this from the for sale section. I picked it up last month and finally finished refreshing it up a little. If I had the patience I would recover completely but it is pretty nice as is. I always wanted one back in the day but had/ still have a Curare that I absolutely love! Can't wait to try it out very soon.

Had my Curare when I got 13-14. Now I'm 42, and with some repairs, it's still flyable

Funny, me to. I think I was 15 or 16 and am 38 now. I still remember the day I first flew it. Mine is very special to me as my father built it and as usual was there by my side when I first flew it and many times after! Maybe he will come out for my first flight with the Aurora!

Nice find 10t!

With a proper finish she could really gleam. It seems like the pipe was mounted in a different way. I'd be interested to see some shots of the underside. Fixed gear or retracts?

Pretty darn cool dude!! I would like to hear how it flly's!!

I missed that one in the for sale section or you folks would have had a tough time beating me to it...

I do have a MK Aurora 45 kit which lists the plane as a side or rear exhaust...I have to go look for sure but I think the side exhaust arrangement showed the engine mounted on a 45 with the pipe running down the belly and enclosed in the bellypan...No problem with yours it's just done different...

Does it have retracts??

If you decide you don't like it give me a shout!!

Have Fun...

Chuck

Chuck,

the A45 plans show the two YS 45 installations - one for FR and one for FS. The FR uses the canted side RE Hatori header to avoid the nose gear. The FS is mounted at 90 degrees with another custom Hatori header which angles into the fuse forward of the FW. It is essentially a standard SE header except it has a slight drop so that when the engine is mounted with the correct right thrust, the header enters the fuse beside the nose gear nicely.

If you have an FR I think it's the cleaner approach - probably inline with your preferences (based on your Calypso build).

That's right I remember that now...It's been a while since I looked at the print...In fact last weekend I was looking up some Hatori headers and saw the angled .45 header your referring too...Duhhhh..

The Aurora 45 kit that I have was purchased in the 80's...At the time I already had a YS 45 FS engine which I initially thought I would use but then decided to get a FR and the appropriate header instead...All that stuff has been sitting on the shelves since then...lol

I don't have anything against the side exhaust instillation but defiantly prefer the rear exhaust...I wouldn't have let that minor detail keep me from buying this sucker had I seen it for sale...Dang!! [:@]

I'm looking forward to a flight report and happy to see one of these puppies return to the air where they belong...All this sitting on the shelve stuff ain't where it's at...

When I got it, it was setup for a side exhaust OS 46. The guy I bought it from had made an adapter to use the regular muffler. I also put a OS 46 in it but used a macs tuned muffler with an extension. This way the wing comes on and off with the belly pan moved the side but not taken off. It has a fixed gear and appears to have been built that way.
