Hello Guys,
Does any of you know about the existence of a Magic 40 ?, same size as a Curare ( Minare ) 40, and it really looks exactly the same as a magic ( and I have the original pics in a catalogue ) Never heard of that one. I stumbled over another weird thing. The airplane looks partly like a Curare, yet the engine standing, and piped like a Magic, yet the pipe is really coming out after the cockpit. I'll try to post some pics, never did that here, so let's give it a try.. |
RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
MK kitted a 40 sized magic as well as the standard 60 sized. There is a picture on the first page of this thread. There may even have been a 25 size.

RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
thx for the comment SC204, didn't know about the Magic in the 40 size as well.
Actually, I can now supply Curare's in .10 , .20 , .40 as well as .60 size :) . Does any of you know what that airplane on the posted pics could be, in my earlier post ? It's surely an RC1 , patternplane.... Thx for the nice pic as well Ron, Steve |
RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
Hey Pals,
I do have a Magic 40 now as well, in need of some changes, like putting in retracts, and putting back on a nosewheel. And getting rid of two cheaper servo's that are placed on the ailerons, and seems to be risky. Some people in my club had problems with them, fortunately just on the throttle, and the other right on the moment his plane was going to touch the ground, on his height [&:] Don't want that happening on the ailerons. You guys can tell me on what I have take notice off when flying a Magic ? |
RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
I have 2 full kits of the Hobby Hangar MAGIC 60 with the glass fuse. Cant wait to get one together. I noticed the above post saying "tragic". Hope that does not apply to mine!

RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
Hi. The plane pictured in post no 52 was an Italian designed kit which used the Curare wing and tail though the wing planform was slightly different but used the same airfoils. I had one of these kits in the 80s and it was very well made but was much much much heavier than say an MK Curare kit all of which used very well selected wood. The Fuse was already made which didnt give much scope for substitution. It was designed for an upright engine with rear exhaust , pipe on top and then the pipe stinger was meant to bend 90 degrees and exit the bottom of the fuse. It flew very well and looked a good bit prettier than the Curare. I had a REDSHIFT 60 made by Dick Fisher in Sheffield England in mine at one time which didnt half go. The moment arms were same as a Curare too. My guess is the Italians took the best F3a plane at that time and applied a bit of Italian artistic flair to it. I know I will remember the name in time, just have to wait for this "Senior Moment" to pass !!!. Paul.

RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
Hello !!
To Roo : Thanks for the help ! You think it's worth some bucks ? The one you see on the pic has a span of 1.6m and the engine is a .40 ????, and "a bit to the weak side for the bird". To RC2007 : well, Chances are that in a short while I'll have the original plans of the Magic 60. We could see if the American version is different, as people here tend to say it's a nice flying bird ? Hey guys : I also traced a Aurora 60.....what do you think ? Buy it or not ? They made it a taildragger [:o] So, it should be rebuild, while the bird didn't even fly yet ( has main retracts ) greetz, Steven |
RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
This is a cool thread....you have people all around the world talking about a 25 year old plane.

RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
Anyone remember the color ad of Prettner holding his majic with a brown copper bronze type color scheme? I have the mag around here somewhere.....

RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
Hi guys.. Well I flew the sorta magic I have and it rules. Tracked straight, inverted perfect, sloooooooooow rolls with ease. But I can't get it to spin without aileron input and stall turns are a problem. Does anyone know the recommended throws for the magic especially the rudder?
Cheers guys |
RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
Baldrick,
Give it all the movement you can get, inner hole on rudder horn, outer hole on servo arm and whatever travel adjust you need to just about touch the elevators. Then add about 65% expo. Elevator movement should be at least 30 deg each way, 45 deg is probably better and the about 70% expo. Go and have another go at spins and stall turns, adjust expo to be nice when landing. Evan. |
RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
Hi again. To Steve25 I am sure you will be glad to know that the "senior moment" has passed and I can now reveal the name of the model you pictured. Drifting off to sleep last night it came to me in a flash,(sad or what!!). The GALAXY is the name of this model and it was definitely an italian kit. It was originally flown by an italian team member at one of the F3a world champs, probably designed by him and then kitted. I do not remember the manufacturer probably Aviomodelli, Scorpio , Mantua, or some such. I do have pictures of mine somewhere in the atttic and if I ever find them I will try to get a computer literate friend to post them here. Paul.

RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
I know this is an old thread but looking back is a fun thing. I competed with a Magic in '82-'84 in the old Masters class. I moved up from a Phoenix 8 which is also a very good flying plane. I don't really remember who's kit it was but most likely a HB. I powered it with an ST-X60 RE with a Hatori header and a Mac pipe with a after muffler aka Hanno's style. I first had a Pro-Line Custom Competition 7 then replaced that with a Futaba 8JN. I don't remember any coupling issues but I do remember the plane was very smooth and fast. It died when the elevator servo quit and the plane flew off into the trees and it took me 8 hours to find it. After that plane I briefly completed with a Tony F Challenge then slowly moved away from pattern.

RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
I see you guys are strong Hanno fans. I can't remember how many consecutive championships he had at the TOC invitationals in Las Vagas.
|
RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
To Steve 25. The answer to all your questions is to look at new thread entitled " MERATI MODELS GALAXY ". This is what you have. You can even buy it !!. Good luck. Paul Brennan.

RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
Hehe,
I could buy that plane for 50 €, yet didn't. Well, if you look in my profile to 'my models' you understand, while I can still buy some other old birds. But I'll look into that thread, maybe a good one to add later, as the dehydral is certainly cool :) Actually want to get my hands on a Magic 60, anyway, got myself an engine for that bird already :D ( Webra 60 rearexit with it's tuned pipe ). I even got myself a variable prop, but don't have it in my hands yet, so can't say what make it is, and if it's variable in flight, but it surely gives a sight on the technique, as I would like to see this feature available for our birds. |

RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
It's been a long time and my memory is a bit fuzzy but I believe that Model Airplane News ran a construction article on Magic. Plan and construction article should still be available. You could contact MAN is the States and see
MattK ORIGINAL: dave.windymiller Hi Again My magic is nearing completion, built from an RCM&E plan (UK Magazine) out of good old fashioned balsa! Does anyone out there have a copy of the article that went with the plan please? Cheers Dave |
RE: MK "Magic" Plans...
MAN's does not have the construction plan for the Magic. Only the Curare. They did have the Minare, but that is unavailable.
