RE: Dalotel
I narrowed down the power package to a Hyperion 4020-14 motor and 5S lipo. I ordered a mount for the 4020 and have a new AR7000 rx. I plan to use either Futaba 3102's(excellent centering accuracy) or the digital version. Two aileron servos plus the retract servo in the wing. Rudder(and maybe elevator) to have cable drive. ESC is a CC 80. I ran the numbers through Motor Calc 8 and got 212 watts per pound in and 198 watts per pound out with an APCE 14/7. Folks, that's nearly a 1/1 thrust to weight! Weather really sucks here(light snow in Southern Mississippi!). Work has me down through Saturday and hope to start making patterns on Sunday.

RE: Dalotel
Wow! That's quite a power package! As they say, "Too much power is just about right." Congrats! Maybe electric is the way to go. In the FAI regionals held last Oct. in Taiwan, the electric pattern airplanes (3 of them) were all in the top half of the score sheets. Out of 28 contestants, the e-pattern planes were 3rd, 10th, and 14th. The judges wanted the pattern planes to fly closer and slower.

RE: Dalotel
Yes, the Hyperion does put out some power! Honeydo's got in the way of making templates and I guess this weeks is a goner, too! Received the motor mount and will, at least get it mounted.

Contact MrAerodesign (www.mraerodesign.com) at

RE: Dalotel
very nice. Tell us how she flies!
|
RE: Dalotel
I truly believe that this is one of the best scale flying airplanes out there. The fuse moments are excellent and the airplane has a very generous horizontal tailplane area as well as a huge rudder and fin. This airplane really grooves well.

RE: Dalotel
The Chip Hyde one from TOC 1999 picture on other page, is that a plan or kit? I would like to get a Dalotel that would be good on a 50ish cc motor.
Any info I would be grateful of. The tail looks lower in this photo than most of the other versions? |
RE: Dalotel
Is it still possible to get the plans via a set of DXF files.
Just the bird I was looking to build. Thanks, JR |
Hi!
Sorry for the late reply, I only looked for Dalotel plans today: Any chance you still have the files to send me? I would be very grateful! If so, my email is [email protected] Thanks!!

Hi everyone!
Here are the JPEG scans of the 3 sheets of the DALOTEL 60 plans. They're not fully complete yet, as more explanatory text is needed. The plans measure 33 x 60 ins on the inside border. The border is 1-1/2" all around. The plans are on DesignCAD, but can be exported to AutoCAD if desired. I can send them that way to anyone who asks, cuz i think it will be much much cheaper than sending hard copies from the Philippines via UPS or FEDEX. If you have any questions about any sections of the design, please feel free to post your questions. I will be more than glad to answer. |
Dalotel
Man, this thread brings back allot of memories. I first asked about the Dalotel here on RCU years ago (I forget how many). Back then, I ended up buying a 60 size Dalotel already built with a Rossi 61FIRE with a tuned pipe run inside the fuse. I ended up having to sell it a few years later because I lost my job, but I was lucky enough to be able to buy it back when I had the chance. Man I love that plane It flies like a pattern plane should, like it's on rails.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. . . . . :D David |
That sounds like the Dick Hanson version. The original version had an all wood fuselage with foam flying surfaces. He later produced a glass fuselage version. Chip Hyde flew the original wood/foam version very successfully (won the '84 Nats with it); Rossi powered as well. I saw him fly it at the '85 Nats - very impressive.

Here is a quick shot of my 91" electric Dalotel. Did my own plans, parts were laser cut by J-Tec. Everything is built-up and the cowl is glass. HK retracts and GA6000.8 motor on 12 cells. It flies FANTASTIC! Love it when the wheels go up just like the old days of pattern;) |
Attachment link does not work.

Very nice! I like the idea of a glass cowl.Did you use the lost foam method?
|
I actually made a wood cowl with laser-cut parts and turned that into a plug, made a mold from that and then the actual cowl. The canopy is actually petg sheet and easy to do. This airplane is SO much fun to fly and it looks GREAT in the air.
|
Looks great! How about more photos and details. Thanks
