My experience:

Your going to need to seal that "blue section" otherwise your feathered paint lines will show through...Even though you have done a nice job of feathering with 400g paper I fear that you will see the lines...You'll probably have some shade differences too (especially since your paint is sooo transparent)...

I'd recommend masking off and shooting a coat of epoxy primer over your "blue area"...Let it cure and give it a nice sand job but try not to bust through...If you do bust through then re-spray...

I didn't catch what brand of epoxy primer you're using but that should be perfect for this task...You could use that straight out as a primer...Or if it's an automotive epoxy primer such as PPG DP series you have an option to reduce it more and use it as a sealer...Never the less follow the directions on the can...If it does not specifically call out instructions for additional reduction as a sealer do not modify the paint...(The only advantage to a "sealer" is it would be a thinner layer of paint)

Whatever..Don't get discouraged!! She is looking great and you'll get her straight... ;)

Thanks for the input. The new blue paint I am using is very opaque, it will not bleed through (check the photo in post #256). I can live with a little feathered image, I just want to get this done!

So last night I sanded the wing panel to remove the ridges for when I re-paint. Not so lucky this time around, went through the white in a few spots. Not to worry, it is easy to re-shoot just that area. All I have to do is mask off the yellow center panel.

I have no excuse, I just have a case of jitters to do this right. So then I talked to myself and said "well, c'mon, you've taped and painted dozens of planes, why are you chicken about this one?"

It boils down to having been bitten a couple of times already, I am reluctant to risk F#$%ing it up again. Well, it's showtime, gotta move on, risk or not. So I have masked things off tonight, and will spray tomorrow. Wing needs white, and I will use the white to seal the masking of the fuse, too. Here's some progress photos.

Well, we painted tonight. SUCCESS! Well, relative to the last time I painted the blue, anyway.

So on to the blue. Not a perfect job, but acceptable when you will see it at 85 mph in the air.

Next step is to mask and spray the left wing panel. That will be 8-10 days away, gotta go to the IPMS convention is VA this w/e.

i'm sure a lot of builders skip over their trouble spots when posting their build threads:eek:. but we have all benefited from WEDJ's trials and tribulations. the results look great, i commend you for hanging in there. it's no fun redoing something that takes so long to do in the 1st place.

Nic, I agree with david your post on thing's that you had go wrong has help me . That is going to be a beaufiful Perigee when your finished. I know I would have put it in the corner a long time ago and started on something else. Pete

My Canoe diorama got 2nd place in ships.

I scored the right size US flag for the Perigee body sides.

Awesome modelling- congratulations! IPMS Nats are for the best of the best. Now if you came out of the vendor area with only a couple flag decals, that would be unbelievable. I've come out of there so broke I couldn't pay attention!

Oh for sure he bought more! Like Dave, I too have an eye out for water slide American flag decals wherever I go.

The diorama is awesome, what did you use for water? It's beautiful... I'm jealous. My stuff only looks good from five feet!

The water is Envirotex Lite Epoxy - took 3 quarts of it!

Super job Nic. I do some narrow gauge railroading (On30 & HOn30) envirotex makes really neat water if it doesn't crack on you.

BEWARE OF CHEAP ARF FUEL TANKS!!!!!!

Just for everyones information. I got my Goldberg Heritage Sr. Falcon flying. Has a TT 46Pro and plenty of power. Nice flyer but WAAAAAAAAAY too much dihedral. When I get the new wing I will remove all but 1 inch of dihedral. Notice I said WHEN I get the new wing.

The cheap chinese fuel tank that came with the kit assembled well and looked good and was solid for the past couple of weeks but today I went out and on the first flight had a problem. I had an intermitant loss of the signal in a steep climb to a stall turn and finally the plane went over the top. As it became inverted I got everything back and said "hmm wonder what that was" and continued down through a split s at about 1/3 throttle and when it became upright all control was totally lost. She went into the 10 ft corn across from the pits. Busted 1 wingtip about 18 inches in and some minor cracks in the fuse. It never even touched the ground.

When we diassembled the plane the radio was SOAKED with fuel. The tank split vertically under the plug up front and drowned the radio. 1 less Sr. Falcon for a while and now the Intruder is down waiting for a Dubro or Sullivan tank.

Beware of the cheap ARF tanks.

I checked with Tower and no more wing kits or parts for Goldberg. I have to build a new wing. I will trace a rib and build an almost flat rib.

Well, I passed up taping the wing for this - the final body details. Much more gratifying, I can assure you! Let's start with the REAL Perigee lettering, which I took from the original photo, then stretched, skewed and reduced it for scale. Put it on the body and put carbon paper under it.

Next, we need to letter the N (dot) USA that Tom Brett had. Tape makes the letters nice and even.

OK, now mix epoxy paint (full strength), decide what brush you will sacrifice, and carefully paint the lettering as best you can. Both sides, of course.

Did I tell you I got the right size American flag at the IPMS show? It's actually dry transfer, so I will wait until the paint is dry, and do it tomorrow. I have to say, getting to this point is a milestone in my mind, I wondered how I would get the Perigee lettering right. After trying all the fonts Microsoft had, I decided to use the original photo and manipulate it to size and shape. I'm glad I did.

Finally, I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel...............
