RE: EU1A
Looks good! I keep looking at my old one and wondering to fly it or not. I also have a complete kit , rohm airs, os60vf, pipe all NIB that I can't decide to build or not. I have been flying one of my two Diamante's lately plus I am about to maden a Rubin. I enjoy the planes but they just don't stack up to my Ricochet 2M. (but 25+ years development might be the issue).
Back in the 80's I always thought the Atlanta and Eu1A were 2 of my favorite planes to fly. I hear some one is making the Atlanta again. |
RE: EU1A
Yeah Man. I know what you mean. BUT it seems that since I dropped out in 1989, and started back up in 2005, I'm kinda stuck back when pipes and Rohm's ruled. Am flying now also 2 UFO's. A trike gear that I flew in the 83 nats, and a conventional gear one I built in 2007. Also fly an Escape I bought at Graves in 2006. All are Rossi 60's, and I kinda know they are classic and kinda really hard to replace, but they were made to fly, and being 61, I don't know how long my already feeble eyes will last. So I'm gonna fly-em. Next up is to get my Tipo that I flew at the 85 nats in the air, and then an all wood MK Curare I purchased at Perry 2 years ago. The Tipo has an OPS 60 and pipe down the side. Was the best plane I ever flew. Oh. I have BPA logo tatto on my arm. No fool like an old fool. But am enjoying life right now.
Enjoy RCU also, and you guys are super. DAVE Oh. Beat Jason Shulman in 85 at the nats. Course he was like 12 then. But not many people can say they outscored him!!! LOL |
RE: EU1A
I know what you mean. I stopped flying in 85 and didn't start again untill this March. I had to buy a new radio JR9303 2.4 because my spotless Futaba 7FG AM wasnt allowed. Too bad I loved that radio. Now however the computer world has taken over. Cant control your plane then just program it out till ypu can. I'm curious once my flying gets back to speed to see if the comp. radio will help the old planes. Of course learining how to program or adjust the correct controls may be as difficult as learning to do them with sticks!

Holy Cow Dave,
That's one sweet looking bird you have there....:D Looks like you did an awesome job on the finish too. I hope you have many years of enjoyable flights with her. |

I think what you will find most useful from the modern computer radios are the sub-trim functions, dual aileron/elevator servo mixing, and to a great extent the aileron differential adjustment. The dual rates can come into use if you so choose. On something like an EU1-A having some extra elevator rate at times is handy. Most of the older planes flew straight in the first place - designed that way because we DIDN'T have computers to mix things out :) But just in case, a little bit of rudder/elevator mix can help with pitch up/down in knife edge should you run across that. Otherwise.... nothing is there to fly the plane for you. It is still two sticks with you on the business end of things [&:] |
RE: EU1A
Is the EU1A available as a kit?
Dave |
RE: EU1A
Carolina Custom Models has the molds and will be producing the plane again.
My understanding from Dan is that he expects to release the kit sometime by the end of the year. |
RE: EU1A
I'd forgotten about that! Too cool. Still, I should probably build a Brushfire first as that model is in Dan's current lineup.

RE: EU1A
rcguy,
Yes, production of the EU1 A is behind. The main issue has been finishing up a new mold for the belly pan and then getting a few other issues worked out. I'm certainly sorry for the delay as there are quite a few guys waiting... but I'm sure each one of them would rather have an excellent quality kit rather than a "hurried into production" kit. Thanks for your patience. It will be worth it. Dan Carolina Custom Aircraft |
RE: EU1A
dan,
i would order this myself. keep us posted. |
RE: EU1A
Man, what pleasent memories this thread opened in my old brain. I had one of the first Aero Composits kits Dave Scully produced with Webra 61 Race, Rhoms, sheeted painted wing. She was heavy but after the Webra got up on the step it was a pleasure to fly. I was flying AMA Pattern out of Augusta, GA then and lost the EU-1A in pratice for the SC state championships @ Ft Jackson (mid 80s I think) when a nerd turned on his radio with out the pin.

Dual rates and expo. are cool features but I started flying in the 70's as a kid and had to learn to CONTROL THE AIRPLANE WITH THE STICKS. I still have a Futaba Conquest 6 ch. that I fly with for fun. When I teach folks to fly I mess with their programming on their TX's before they solo to make sure they can actually fly in other than optimum conditions. LOL |
