RE: Supra Fly 60 build
Very nice, I'll be getting back into mine real soon. I'd like to see some pics of your build.

RE: Supra Fly 60 build
I'll see what I can do...

RE: Supra Fly 60 build
Rendegade,
Very nicely done! Did you scale down the 60 size plans and build from that? What did you target the wing span at? Perhaps it's the same scale as the Pilot ARF (which I know very little about)? It would be great to see some build snaps. Chris, Where's your build at? I'm sure you've made more progress than I have on the Calypso (considering I haven't shed an ounce of balsa in over 6 months!). David. |
RE: Supra Fly 60 build
When I finally retired my unbelievably beaten up supra fly 45 unlimited (EZ Version) I took dimensions of EVERYTHING.
I think had in my mind to do another version at a later date. That was in 2004. When I finally got around to doing it I started in july 2010! I ended up targeting the wingspan at 48" plus 1" tip blocks to get to 50. This worked out great as the fuselage sides could be cut from a 4x 36" peice of balsa, with minimal wastage! I originally set the size for a plain bearing 40, to keep it cheap and cheerful. I happened to have a NIB 40 fsr that was going into it, while the other was getting a 40 LA. I couldn't bring myself to dirty the 40 fsr, so I put a clapped out 46 fx in it. Goes like a rocket. I haven't tried it doing the P-11, but I'm sure it could do everything. Even the rolling figure M given enough space! |
RE: Supra Fly 60 build
Wow! 50"
I can see what you mean by goes like a rocket! I'm working on a 50" span model (a UFO) which is targeted at 56 oz and a piped 25 or 32. The SF25 has a 47.5" span and 440 squares! Please do post some CU shots of details as I'm sure it would interrsect nicely with the Pilot/OK Model Supra Fly 25 which we eventually will fold into the 20 size MK conservation project. David. |
RE: Supra Fly 60 build
Will do:)
I agree, it's a little bit undersized for a 46 but I tend to overpower my aircraft anyway. My Venus 40 had a 61sf in it and that was about right:D I've attached the plans I knocked up for it. Sorry about the low-res image. |
RE: Supra Fly 60 build
Chris,
More... More! I also had a SupraFly45 w/Rossi 61 rear exhaust and mechanical retracts. It looked mean and flew fast, but it was actully quite easy to fly, as long as you managed the throttle carefully on take off! Will you be selling components, etc? Thanks, Cesar |
RE: Supra Fly 60 build
Chris,
I was wondering what the status of your build was? I imagine you probably finished and have flown the model by now. Do tell us more about the model and post some pics! I'm getting closer to being done on a pair of Mystic 30's but have yet to finish the Calypso 60. David. |
RE: Supra Fly 60 build
My building goes in cycles and as much as I hate to say it, that plane sits exactly like it has since my last post. An urge to continue will come! I just have to be in the right mood.

I just winged it.. If you would like any pictures or dimensions of mine just let me know. |
RE: Supra Fly 60 build
Yes, photos and dimensions would be great. Minnflyer did an article for a vacuum sanding table that is very similar and would work also I believe.

RE: Supra Fly 60 build
Alright Chris,
Winter is upon us and it's time for an update. Is the pup framed up? On the other hand I can't say I've moved the Calypso along too much other than getting the cowl painted. I need to pull out the wings and get them finished. I'd like to finish up one of the Mystics first though - just need some covering. Maybe Santa will bring me some... Been a good boy this year! ;) David |

I just wanted to share a Supra Fly video with my fellow modelers. I am not sure if it is a supra fly or calyspo.
If anyone has plans let me know. I will buy them. I am going to try and build another one for competition. I need the cowl and canopy everything else I can do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7W-Xc6pV9Xk see my videos on youtube. I am planeman4u Thanks Darryl |
RE: Supra Fly 60 build
Looks like a Calypso with the long canopy and low turtledeck.
|
RE: Supra Fly 60 build
You are right, I did some more research. It is a Calypso
Thanks much! Darryl |
RE: Supra Fly 60 build
Speaking of supraflys as we were. I started cleaning out my workshop, and decided its time for some boxes of balsa to go.
Lets just say there's a Suprafly 25 there.... |
RE: Supra Fly 60 build
I see it's been awhile since you posted any updates. Ihope you are still at it. I have a Dale Moore U-Fly 60 pattern plan kit that's been sitting around my attic for over20 years waitingto find the time to startit. Now I havethe time but I can't find the plans orbuilding instructions. I've built many planes in the pastbut I'm not sure I can just "wing it" with this one. The U-Fly 60 isa Supra Flycloneso any plans for this planeshould help me with mine. The U-Fly 60 has a 60" length and 64" wing span (foam wing and stab). Can you help with plans or instructions? You've posting some great pictures but the plans are a must for me to start. Thanks, Bill</p> |
