RE: NW TENN FLYERS
Another pic from this weekend. I can't even blame Gordon or Jim on this one, it was self inflicted! [X(] Note to self: it's not good to fly over one's head and get disoriented. [:@] Not to worry, 5 minute glue job and it flew again.

The Commemorative Air Force, a nonprofit organization dedicated to refurbishing and preserving historic combat airplanes, is looking for a new national headquarters location, and the Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport has made the final list.
<snip>
The CAF National Airbase facility will feature a year-round aviation attraction, house headquarters staff and member-volunteers who will organize and execute an annual warbird airshow and fly-in, and be a base of operations for some of the CAF's most significant flying vintage military aircraft.

Well we went up to Benton Ky and flew with Bubba and his group. man we had alot of fun, Bubba grill hotdogs for lunch, and had all the fixing plus watermelon. I guess that there was 14 or so flyers.
Know for the rest of the story. It seem like everytime that I would fly Frank would fly he would fly. into me and he would come up on the short end. man he used nearly an tube of glue. And can you beleive that he said it was my fault. . Alll in all we had fun and all of our stuff still is fly-able.

I think Jim had on rose colored glasses today for that kind of report on my flying. But he did get the part of me coming up on the short end of the stick all day. I think I got in two out of 12 flights that I did't have to glue my Yak back together. Jim and Bubba kept wearing out the ass end of it. It sure isn't nose heavy with all that quick grip back there. LOL Jim kept wanting me to fly my good Yak but I told him no, I had to have something left for Mac's next weekend to fly with Gordon! Heck I gave such a good description of what happened to it to my wife she actually wanted to go out and see it for herself.
Now to get that EF 48" MXS finished up for next weekend................

Yep, we sure had a good time. It had been way too long since we flew with those guys.

Other then a little rudder flutter I'm liking the Techone SU, I'm using the sg90/hxt900 servo's and a 28-30/park 400 kv1100 motor, as light as I could get it but for the extra $4 for the kit version Yak I'm liking the Yak better. The last 2 Yaks seem better then the earlier ones I got as far as the fuse being straight and none with that flat airfoil on the wing.

2 of the kits I have do and 2 do not.
The rudder is turned a little in that pic, the gap between the fin and rudder is pretty tight and I do not think the gap is causing the flutter, I think once I move the rod closer in on the servo that might help the flutter. I did recut the top of the fin to a closer 90 degree, sure seems like T1 has problems cutting a 90 degree on stab and wing cutouts, bottom of fuse, etc but its alot of plane for the money. Did anyone ever check out the Swift, Yak price at 2dogrc back when they sold them?-Yikes

Well, in between working and finishing the sheet rock in a spare room, I'm just about done covering a kit I just built, 60" P51 with flaps and retracts. Got to fly the Venus some Thursday and picked up a Balsa Nova kit that I'm going to build after the P51. I miss that Balsa Nova I got from you Jim, so I couldn't pass up the chance to have another one. Would like to get one in.120 size, but they are hard to come by.

I thought I would check in to see how you guys are doing. It looks like the good times are still rolling with you all. And Gez!.........are all the gassers gone? Is it pretty much all electric for you guys now? I am way behind. I've been keeping the batteries charged on what I guess is antique nitros and gasser.

Hey Kevin,
Good to know you're still out there. I'm down to one gasser now. An EF 50cc Extra. Just sold off my Funtana X100 with a DLE 20 in it and put together a 70" EF Extra electric. First venture into an electric this size. Also put together an EF 48" MXS last fall. Sold my 100cc EF Yak in the fall of 2012 and it's been a trend towards electric since then. We spent most of last summer flying some Tech One EPP foamies and having a ball with them. It's been down hill ever since. LOL

I can see that this could cost me some coins. I have been thinking about converting the mojo 40 to electric. II really need to visit one of the get together s when the weather breaks. A friend of mine is getting in and ordered a RTF electric last week to learn on. I will be working with him and hope he gets hooked. Will see how t goes.

Here's the foamie stuff that got us all started in it. This EPP is so easy to work with. One tube of quick grip from Wal-Mart and you're ready to go. We end up doing more combat with them than anything else. LOL With three in the air at once and all hovering in close and tight, it's just a riot. Been a few cuts and hits from it too. Gotta be careful if you fly to close to Jim, he'll reach up and grab your plane out of the sky! LOL

All repair work is done at the field with the quick grip. Normally 15 minutes and you're good to go. We fly them till they get too heavy from all the repairs then it's time for a new one.

I went out and flew the mojo 40 today. A little shakey at first since I have flown in a year or two. IT worked out though, Then the fedex truck brought my Tech One Yak 54. Looks great. I had one alot like it when electrics got started in 07. I bet that thing to death and it was so fun. This one looks much better. Maybe I'll get it together tomorrow, but will be waiting on the batteries.

Jim,
Looks like a job for the quick grip you guys turned me on to.
I have flown a few packs through the Tech One Yak. Man was it tail heavy. I put 5/8 oz in the nose to get it to balance at 130 mm. Does pretty good there. I just need my time and the weather to align now.

Hey Jim and Russ, you hear that? Balance on a Tech One? hahahahahahaha Sorry about that, couldn't resist. Yea they do tend to be a bit tail heavy but honestly we've never checked one. We just chuck um up in the air and hang on. That sounds about right though. The other day I stuck a 1600 battery in there and it flew level for a change. Problem is after you fly with Jim, you just keep getting more tail heavy from all the quick grip you have to use for the repairs after he chews your rudder up.
There's a chance some of us will be flying at my place next Saturday. You're more than welcome to come up if you like. I'll drop you a line later in the week when we see what the weather does.
