How far will you go to return a lost airplane?
Having recently found a lost airplane I started thinking hoow much effort should I put into finding it's owner?
The front is missing except for the engine so it's mostly a write off except for the gear.
There is no ID inside and no markings we can fin
I feel bad for the pilot.. I know if I lost one I'd want it back..
How far would you go to return it?
ALso what would you do to be sure you gave it to the right person?

Are you sure it was not intentional "lost"? I don't think you'd get much info from any club from the looks of it. Don't mean to be harsh, but.......[:-] As far as finding the rightful owner, if you post notices at the various club sites or local hobby shops, you only need to give minimum details of plane and location where found. If you get a reply have them give description usch as make of engine , radio, etc.......

I guess it is possible.. If nobody turns up then I get a free flight pack and engine..
Maybe I just don't understand people who can blow off a perfectly good engine, receiver and servos.
I did hold back on the details..
Location Found.. Floating down the Columbia river
Type 40 size trainer
color scheme.. mostly missing

Contacting local clubs (upstream on the river) is a good idea. If you get no response then it's yours for whatever it is worth. It appears the fuselage was not covered. Strange, makes on think it was not actually a flyaway. Back to stolen and dumped.

Nope.. it has 4 servos, a receiver, engine and 1/2 a tank of fuel..
It was fond floating in the middle of the Columbia river..
I'm trying to contact the one club up river I know of that flies near a river that feeds the Columbia.
The picture I posted is how it was found.

AMA rules say the owner of the airplane is supposed to have AMA number and/or contact information somewhere inside or on the airplane.
I have had three free flight models returned because this information was on the airplane. When I gave up flying indooor hand launch gliders, I took my gliders outdoors, with no identification. put them in thermals, and waved them by-by. Hope someone found them and had fun with them.

And all they wouldve needed to do was print out some of those Avery address labels and stick it inside the fuse. Would've taken him all of 2 seconds. Excellent example of why it's a good idea.

Maybe the RC pilot is not a member of AMA [sm=idea.gif]
Consider contacting some of the clubs and some of the area hobby shops.

I suppose, if one were not an AMA member, one could still put name and address in the airplane. Of course if one joins the AMA, follows the rules, and gets an airplane back as a result, that would offset a certain amount of dues.
Some guys also put a trash bag inside the airplane so it will be there when they need it. [&o] This is not an AMA requirement.

Kind of like having your name in your underwear Judging by the covering, he must have been flying it during the fall season as not to clash!

The engine is fine after a good cleaning and lube but do you really want a flight pack found "floating" in the Columbia river.
Sounds like a Mafia hit to me[8D]

Considering the circumstances if you send email to the club upstream asking if someone lost the plane you have met your "obligation" to look for the owner.
