RE: Sepulveda Basin
Hey guys, just got off the phone with Dave Rink's wife Leslie. She is selling Dave's RC stuff. There are airplanes, a couple of gas helicopters ( a 90 and 30 size thunder tiger), rolling tool cabinet with all sorts of rc tools and parts.
She knows how much Dave loved the basin and is hoping it will go to basin enthusiasts. Dave would want it that way.
He also had a bunch of rc car stuff as well.
Her cell number is 818-209-2880

Here are a few dozen pics of the Scale Fun Fly - Aug 3 & 4
Thanks to the Valley Flyers and it's volunteer members for another fun & successful annual summer Scale Fun Fly. I believe there were 43 entries and nearly 150 models on display. All proceedes go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
An optional "simple-scale-contest" was also flown on Saturday.
About half of Saturday's flyers also came back on Sunday.
Some highlights ( for me ) were the hand crafted models by:
Rich Cox = FW-190
Corey Dail = P-51D "Dallas Doll" & AT-6 ( highly modified A.R.F.s )
unknown = B-52
unknown = 1/4 scale P-51D "Old Crow"
unknown = 1/3 scale Piper L-4
unknown = 1/3 scale PT-17 "Kaydet"
Charley Mead = SIG Skybolt - built in 1991
Scott Ramirez = N1K1-J Shinden "George" - electric 46" span started life as a Parkzone T-28
Dick Skoglund = Piper PA-28 - completely scratch built
http://www.flickr.com/photos/kens-ae...7634992396180/
In a r/c world now dominated by "A.R.F.s" at these Scale Fun Flys, it's refreshing to see "builders" show up with some nicely detailed & ( in some cases ) documented contest-level models.
It's also gratifying to see that a model airplane flying site such as the "Basin" can exist in a major city. The current site was built in 1972 and I started flying there in '77 and I've seen many changes. Still a great layout and it's pretty much flyable weather all year long.
Ken.

Next weekend, Sunday August 17 will be the summer Fun Fly and swap meet. Of course, it looks like August will finally be heating up, so come down and bake in the sun with everyone! All proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project. The event is free to SFVF members and a $10 donation for non members.

My Feedback: (37)
Been flying at the Basin for over 20 years, my inflight camera made me aware that I was actually flying over the access road and over the golf course at times. I guess the foamies are allowed but a giant scale is not a good idea, even though I saw a foamie land on top of an SUV by accident. Looks like I will have to cut that upwind turn a little sooner.

Wow, the Basin thread is kinda dead these days. I found it back on page 4. A certain guy from Ohio posts here more than the local guys!
L A Jets this weekend was especially fun because everyone was safe with no crashes, no fires, and great weather, and I was part of it again!

Not like the good old days before the crash of 08
Thanks for helping me with my Rude Squadron Mustang one day.

Interesting about the basin thread being dead since there is still a lot of flying going on out there. Unfortunately there will not be an IMAC contest according to the latest valley flyer news letter.
No details other than the club approached VNY and was denied. Pitty, that field could be the premier location in SoCal.

There is definitely plenty of flying at the Basin! I showed up today (Saturday) and there must have been 50 planes and 6-8 of them in the air throughout the day! Back to weekday flying for me.
Looks like a big corsair was lost due to planes coming close to each other.... some advice make sure you have a spotter! It may help save your plane or at least help you pick up the pieces.

The link you are looking for is http://trafficinfo.lacity.org
There used to be a direct link to the basin but it apparently no longer exists.
