The problem with this hobby

The problem with this hobby (aeromodeling) is that flying season is too short. We are coming to the end of winter. Next will come mud season with high winds. Around mid May the winds will calm down, the field will dry out, and flying season will begin in earnest. Then we have 4 or 5 months of good flying. Come October the days will be too short to fly after work and I will be limited to the occasional weekend day that I can get free.

Well you have a point but I like to fly off snow in the winter. There's nothing like seeing little diamonds of snow trailing of the skiis on take-off. I have floats for the in-between seasons too and of course there's all winter to build kits. It's a real challenge to build a scale aircraft, just as much enjoyment as flying for me. And to round it out, I have a few flight simulators to keep my reactions quick. So I think you can keep busy all year with modelling with a little effort.

My solution is; I live in Indiana during the summer & Florida in the winter. However, fishing seems to get in the way when I'm down here !! I don't have much "kit time".

What are you talking about, we fly year round. The only thing that stops me from flying is when I don't fell like it. If I waited for good weather I'd never fly.

I 'earned' by 'Year-Round' AMA patch by flying the almost three years in Minnesota! Guess which month I broke my streak? August!!! Went to the Nats in Lincoln that year, followed by the EAA Convention in Wisconsin and before I knew it - it was September!!! Now I'm a woosie

And only fly when the temp is less than 115 and winds less than zero

Flew today here in balmy N.Idaho, 58 degrees, no wind and no snow. Last year 4 ft+ snow and 20-28 degrees. Global warming is great!!!!!!! (thanks to Al Gore the inventor of global warming).

We've had really terrible weather here in Oklahoma this year. Much worse winter than normal. We usually still get flying days even throughout winter. But I've been grounded for almost 2 months. However, the weather gods smiled on us yesterday with temps in the 60's and winds around 10 mph. Felt good to get out and get some stick time again. Got in 8 flights on 2 different planes. Plus helped a newer pilot maiden flight his new Tiger 2. And of course got in the requisite amount of "socializing" with the flying buddies as well!!!! All in all it was a great day!!!!

I should have flown today, 36 degrees and a bunch of snow. maybe 5 mile an hour wind. Oh well did go fly last weekend Saturday off the snow and Sunday of the grass. Then Monday 6 inches of snow.
Also started a new kit a Air Flair short cut 60 size plane.

May as well enjoy it. Bouncing off the clubhouse roof with a 1/4 scaler. Picnic table for a heli pad. Redneck snowshoes for the heli.

We here in AZ are also burdened with deplorable winter flying conditions.
The photo below was taken in November 2009. Note the threatening skies, the ice choked lake, and the heavy sweatshirt!

This weekend looks like the first flight of the year. Been flying sim since I got back from the Southern Dawn Patrol in December.
Can't wait for the castor smell again.
