Default The Viking

I was wondering about the Brodak Viking? It’s a kit not a ARF. Has any body built or in the process of building one. Or have flown one. They say, Brodak that the plane flys old time Stunt pattern. I am wanting to buy one for a future build. My Chief is getting old several crashes and repairs. I know Brodak also has a Chief Kit. My Current Chief is a Original Veco. AJ

Well no answers to my inquires about the Viking. I’ve got a few die smash kits, but this lazar cutting has got me hooked. A little more sanding but it beats using that number 11 exacto blade and extra hours of work. Also the assembly process seems to be more exact. Avoiding adjustments just to get parts to fit during assembly. I’ve looked at Stunt Hanger. And no posts on the Brodak Viking. I don’t post their never joined.AJ

Hi JonnieS I’ve seen the VIdeo that Shug posted. I don’t think he built it if I remember right. He may have. I did inquire about the plane but only got that it was sold by Brodak. I buy from them all the time. Sense Sig moved and is relocating. From Iowa. I did order one for a future build. Still working on my Super Ringmaster. Thanks for the post. enjoy my quiet hours reading about our hobby, Merry HolidayAJ.

Well Brodak sent my Viking via UPS along with 26% caster 5% fuel, and a new set of .018 70’ flying wires. I buy the 70’ and do a copper wire double wrap. That takes about a foot on each end with extra wire for lead outs. Going to arrive about the 26th. AJ.

Hey we are in 2024. Last I think it was October maybe November 2023, a guy his name is Ray. Gave me four engines and a old kit, it was a U Control, it was in a Sterling Box, and I compaired it to the Brodak Viking I ordered, and this Old kit is a old style Viking. Maker unknown, many parts are missing in that old kit. Wing parts no horizontal, but the elevator and rudder are their. Only on side of the fuselage, and several pieces of Balsa cover material and several sticks. The U Control engines are all Fox and in great shape, good compression and I think never run. I plan to do some tracing off the Brodak kit and build that old Viking. I know it’s not Sterling, maybe an old Top Flight or Pilot kit. AJ

It’s a great windy Texas spring with lots of rain. And a few Tornadoes! Missed us do far. Hope all you UC Flyiers are enjoying the spring. Keep them lines tite! AJ

I had a little work done by the DFW Center for Spinal Disorders back in December. Just be sure you do all the physical therapy. It makes a big difference.

Dr Anthoney Lee is going to fix mine. 8 April. 25, he IA a brain and spinal dis orders. Did my neck. 5 years ago, had copies of my MRI from then and showed me what occurred now. Disc fell into my spine and pushed up against my nerve. I cleaned out some brush in December 24 burned about 6 very large heavy loads. Took me darn near all month. My back was bruzed. My local Doctor gave me some muscle softneres but it helped. In February I was still in pain. So they ordered an MRI, really two with skyline injection. Dr Lee seen something a little higher up. And ordered another MRI. He was right. It's pretty bad. Dr Lee put me on a walker. And don't fall, it could be fatal if you do. My wife fell and broke he wrist. She has had a pin installed today we are getting out her stitches. That where I am at right now. Anyway trying to keep my lines tight! AJ

Hey guys thanks for the response. I’ve been getting phone calls about in-house rehab. I guess my age has prompted this. I kinda plan on it but two weeks after my surgery I have a follow up to remove the stitches, and get set up for my rehab. Hope it includes a pool I really enjoy swimming. Have been off all meds. Blood thinners and vitamins only take my heard Control med, just got a refill on that. Have to fast after 8pm on Monday show time is 5:30 have two shower special soaps and brush at home. That’s early got to leave at 03:30 am Tuesday. This is going to be fun! Keepin them lines tite AJ

Well time sure flys, when your having fun. But this wasn't fun. I passed out when they pulled the fun off plug. The nurse told me it happens quite often. But I am home after five days in the hospital. Had my stitches removed twenty all total. Walk a lot. And climb thirteen stairs four times a day. Had a Afib attack last Thursday took my heart control meds. So as we go in 2025. Guys keeping them lines right and tight, AJ

Yeah, the older we get the tougher it is to bounce back. But the alternative sucks so we just have to keep pushing.

Ya keep pushing, I was finishing up my Super Ringmaster when all this happened. So I mounted my Fox Stunt 35 this am. That went well. Friday I got the Fox 35 change over done on my S1 Ringmaster. Hope by August I will be doing lots better. I mixed up some two part epoxy. Three days ago. That did not go.well. still not hard. Must have mixed it wrong. It's sticky and tacky soft to the touch. A light bulb might help. Well it's noon and more meds. Leep them.lines xstraight and tite

Well that Viking has caught my interest. Sense my Surgery. Really am restricted about sitting then standing then walking every hour. We both had Doctor appointments on the28 April. So, sitting driving and not much walking kinda took its time. So I might break out them Viking plans, get a list of parts to complete, and start planning my next winter project. Shirt of finishing up my S-6 and flying fool 45. That should keep me moving and doing a little PT on the side. Things are going about slower with my Back condition. And I mean alot slower than I truly expected. I realize my age is a factor but having Aircraft to build and time to consume Will help my recovery. Hey my Brothers test them lines and keep them Tight! Recovery from back surgery can be difficult. I had a fusion done on my neck and within a month I was bugging my boss to let my come back on light duty. Three months after the neck I had another fusion done at T12-L1 and that, though a simpler surgery, required a full three months with much more physical therapy. I've been told that the lower you go the tougher the recovery. Just be sure to watch your posture at the building table.

Mjnostic Ya I hear ya I wear a back brace had about the same sequence you had but a little reversed. Stiff knick today but working it out. Doing better walk about hope to loose back this back brace by the end of May. Home TC was a joke all they did was complain about where I lived and took my blood pressure. Listen to my heart and lungs. Gave a few work outs that was it. After two visits I stopped it. Still really sore. But getting better. Every day. Thanks for the post. Keep them lines straight and Tight! AJ

Well it’s been a month sense my Back surgery, and it’s still a really slow process, but my UC projects are doing well, still using my back support unit, helps my stature and keeps me straight. Got sore ribs from using it. Have three planes in the works right now, my Flying Fool 45, Veco Tom Tom And my S6 Super Ringmaster. Built a top tank cowl for my S-6 but it fit my Tom Tom lots better, so back to the S-6 for a new try in the tank cowl. Doing lots of sanding on the fuselage of the Fool but it’s coming along. Kinda running out of building space, ya think! And way my next appointment is next Monday. Hope the xrays turn out well. Still hurts when I caugh. Hey guys keep them lines straight and tight! AJ

Well my appointment was complete and saw the xrays I have a metal plate With four screws in my back and that’s what hurts. My spine was cracked allowing the disc to fall thru on top of each other. Not good, and very sore. That metal piece is holding my spine togeather. I was surprised to see that and did not expect it. So my back brace I have to wear when I drive or when I mow my one acre. Been having that done every two weeks. And plan on doing that until the end of June. Go in for another X-ray in six months, just to make sure nothing has come loose. Hey guys keep them lines straight and tight! AJ

Well we are getting the rain I’ve been getting my lawn cut every two weeks and today was the day. They were here at 7am just before the rain hit. Still coming down and an occasional sun spot. Maybe it will clear up later. Haven’t worked on my UC projects. And waiting on my Nitrate quart to arrive. But still to much humidity to apply dope, should arrive today. AJ
