Default VINTAGE TORPEDO 15 C/L ENGINE

Is this a good running engine? Or what is the buzz on the Torpedo engines? The one i am looking at is in great condition it has a green painted head and looks kinda like an Enya.

The Green Head K&B Torpedo engines were made from about 1950 to the mid 60s.

They were and are excelent engines. As with all engines of this vintage the fuel should have plenty of castor.

The Torp 15 would be a good engine for a Jr Flitestreak, 15 Magician, or 15 Shark. They are good little engines. I'd try an 8 x 4 prop to start with.

DU,
The Greenhead Torp engine was top of its class when it first came out. If it has not been run you need to break it in properly.
As jessiej said, use extra castor (~ 22%-25% total). If it has been run extensively, I would suggest all castor lube. About 10% to 15% nitro is good for most purposes.
The greenhead .15 was replaced in 1961 by a rear rotary racing .15 engine.
Good find!

My engine bible shows the Greenhead 15 first made in 1952 & stopped when the new 61 series came out in 1961 Worth 30-40$, 50-60$ as the 2 needle R/C. Run it like the troops say , lots of castor oil & it will last a long time. MAX H.

I have run a lot of vintage McCoys, K&B's and others looking for the most power I could get for my SAM planes and still use a vintage 50 to 60's glow. I will tell you, nothing outruns a K&B torpedo!! Man those engines are well made and powerfull. My favourites
