I designed and built a 1/2A Norvel .061 powered c/l model and need some help fine tunning. I have been getting some great help from my chief test pilot, RCU member Vaughn Sharp. The plane seems to fly pretty well, but the problem is that you can see the upper side of the outboard wing in a hard maneuver and the same effect when you are inverted -- the outboard wing comes up. We are using .008"x42" lines, the plane seems to be warp and twist free. Cause I'm proud of it, heres a picture to.

Since there are no flaps and the wing comes up both in upright and inverted maneuvers more tip weight is indicated. Normally tip weight is for takeoff, but what you describe is probably because of line weight. Try a little more tip weight and see what happens.

Well shoot...I really think it made it worse. The wings wobble quite a bit but it seams to be worse on the inside loop end of a lazy 8 than the outside loop end. Could there be to much elevator throw, maybe stalling out? Wont see Vaughn until tomorrow.

Elevator throw doesn't need to be more than 20 degrees either way. When you add wing weight add it in line with the CG so it doesn't affect yaw. You may have added too much weight. If the roll is more of a problem one way than the other, that suggests a warp in the wing, even though it looks straight. It may be a problem with leadout position, but I don't suppose you have adjustable leadouts. On 1/2A's I have gone to having both leadouts come out one hole.

Yes, I do have adjustable leadouts but both lines move together, in other words, the line spacing is not adjustable. CG is another thing, I'm flying it very nose heavy, seamed to herkey jerkey with thr CG on the spar.

Move the leadouts forward, go to your local arts and crafts store and by some modeling clay. Now, between flights just keep adding or subtracting clay till the wings don't move. At home you can swap the clay for weight, but at the field, it sticks and adds fine.

Sounds like good advice Clean, I'll post the results. The onlt time I have for C/L is on weekends so it will be a few days.
