Skyray 35 plans
#4

Since you are building from scratch, there are some suggested improvements to the Skyray 35. Use balsa full ribs instead of the plywood ribs and half-ribs, use a two wheel landing gear, variable wingtip weight, adjustable leadouts. Brett Buck suggested the first mods I remember reading about. You can probably do a search on the Skyray to see various suggestions.

I decided to build one from scratch also but I made some other changes that included:
1) foam wing with 1/32 balsa skins
2) electronic single channel throttle control, servo, battery and on/off switch was buried inside the wing
3) built up profile fuselage, 1/16 balsa sides with 3/8" square sticks inside, this proved to be stiffer than the typical 1/2" thick solid balsa fuselage
4) Fiberglassed and then painted the model with latex house paint with nelson clear coat
The model flew great and I did not change any of the dimensions.

I have built several models with 1/32" balsa skins with no problem. I have used the southern sourgum for bonding the skin. I also fiberglass my models and paint them with latex house paint.
