Default Twist gets downed by kamikaze 1/2 A air to air missile

About the 4th flight of the morning after already replacing the undercarriage (got ripped off after the engine died when the muffler bolts loosened), decided to blast vertical after a very short roll out. Plane still climbing straight up when BAM, my buddies 1/2 A mosquito wacks into the left wing. Instant total destruction of about 1/3 of the wing. I cut power but saw that I still had some control so was able to add power andsteer away from the pits and crash land without further damage. Will need a new T/E from the end of the centre sheeting, 2 ribs, l/e from about 4,5" from the tip and several hours work + some expensive film if I want to recreate the colour scheme. [&o]Damn.........

Bummer. I feel your pain. Probally cheaper to buy new wing... three rolls of ultracote are gonna run you close to what the wing would cost...

Problem is going to be finding a wing out here. They only sell complete kits as far as I know so its patch up time.

Spoiler, Horizon just raised the price of a wing with ailerons to $72 US. If I ever need a wing or fuse, I'll buy the whole plane for $99.

72 smackers is alot of bread for just the wing. Better off to buy the whole ARF for $99 and use your old one for spares.

The missile chipped a prop, the wing separated from the fus and the leading edge that took out the Twist wing had a chunk out of it but was otherwise intact.

Big lesson learned on this one. Make sure you have clear airspace especially if you are going to go vertical straigt up above the runway. Most people expect a normal roll out on take off.

Sorry about the mishap but I have to say, I loved the phrase, "total destruction of 1/3 of the wing." Are you related to Yogi Bera?
