If you'll listen closely, it sounded like these fellows were chuckling about something just before the fire. I'm wondering if they hadn't installed a rocket motor for an extra burst of speed and something went awry. If the battery had blown up there wouldn't have been any control after it flared up.

You need a 'codec' (compressor/decompressor) update. Download the latest Windows Media Player from Microsoft.

I think what happened is that they stuck a estes rocket on it, to make it go faster....
but it all went wrong.....
THATS THE FUNNY PART! who agrees with me?

I agree whole heartedly. I've heard of a couple of people try using Estes rocket motors on planes and the larger RC trucks. Seems they forget that these same rocket motors also have parachute deployment charges that are just as hot a gas as the propellant coming out the business end. I've seen more than one totally burned up TMAXX.

You can also hear the electric motors wind up in speed just as the rocket gives it the additional boost.

It normally is sucessful.
Im adding a estes rocket to my F20 (OS91), mainly as a cheap smoke system!
They dont create alot of thrust,,,but I guess its enough for a twinjet..

If that was my plane , the guy filming that video would have been slammed in the mouth with that camera . nothing like a annoying laughing guy. [:@]

If it was my plane and it was foam I wouldn't have stuck a rocket motor on it in the first place

Didn't anyone notice the battery laying on the ground after they put out the fire? It looked fine.
Also, you can hear the motors speed up as the fire happened, and indication that there was a slight boost in speed from somewhere.
Plus they still had control after the fire.

I used to fly model rockets as a kid. The sound of an estes rocket firing is very memorable for me and you can hear the thing ignite just as you see the fire plume. No doubt about it in my opinion, they had a rocket strapped to it. I don't think it was the ejection charge that caused the fire because the fire was too early - it was almost immediately after ignition that the foam burst into flames.
