What do you do with your crashed planes?

Depends on how bad the crash is.......most of the time the wing survives.....usually pretty well intact.....I trash the fuse if it is too bad.....keep the wing.....
Been buildin'......flyin'.....crashin'.....and rebuildin' since 1987..... Right now I have at lest 10 wings of various sizes in my shop.....
I got hold of a piece of 4x8 4mm coroplast......old political sign.....been makin' fuses outa that......
Right now I have a Spooter II and a Jensen Ugly Stik with coro fuses...... The Spooter II has had several altercations with the ground and a couple with a barbed wire fence......all I've had to replace is a couple of 1/4 inch dowels on the wing hold down......
Should have even more coro fused planes soon......have lotsa wings that need a good home.....

The idea of passing on to the younger flyers is interesting. I like it!
Let me test this here. If I can gather enough dead planes of the same kind, perhaps I can get some kind of a youth program going within my club, the Long Island Silent Flyers.
If there are any flyers reading this, that have dead or crippled HobbyZone or similar two channel planes, would you be willing to send me the package if I promise to fix and give it to a kid who wants to learn to fly? Heaven knows I don't need injured planes for for myself. In fact, If this works, I will need to find a place to house this stuff.
Anyone out there with with a Firebird, Firebird II, Firebird XL, Fighterbird, e-gull, T-hawk, Vector, or any of the other planes of this similar configuration, would you donate the plane to a young flyer program?
I would need the whole package. Transmitter, plane, electronics, wing, at least one battery and the charger, etc. Basically send me the whole box. I will gather them up, use parts from one to fix another until I have it flying. Then I will use it as a way of getting kids into flying. These are not for me.
Do you think this would work? If you think this is a good program, I will ask my club, the Long Island Silent Flyers, if I can organize this under the club. We are a glider and electrics club, so this would make a good youth program for us. www.lisf.org
I might even send a proplsal to AMA that a program like this, based on unloved RTFs might be spred to other clubs.

I once had a fellow pilot at our field refuse to talk to me for several weeks after I had crashed. You see the wing was in three pieces the fuse in two pieces with a rather large amount of crash rhubarb about the pieces. and I referred to the mess he was looking at as minor damage. when it flew again three weeks later he couldn't hardly believe it.

I have heard people refer to crashes as "rekitting" the plane. I guess that is how you see it.
I am spending a lot of time learning how to fix after crashes. It has actually given me confidence to move forward in my learning which is now in its third month. I fly, I solo, I have a ball. Most of my problems now have been mechanical issues that I didn't know to watch out for.

Hi Fellas
Anytime someone ask me the best plane to start with I always tell them the same thing.. Any of the trainers available are pretty good and pretty much fly the same way, but i like x, or y, or z. but which everone you get buy a KIT and put it together, That way when the time comes you will have some Idea of how to fix it and that time will come. If you build it and crash it and know how to put it back together. the crash is a p i t a not a major tradegy that's going to put you off the hobby.. And if you learn a little about building or planes or aerodynamics those things are a bonus but the flying that's the thing that gets in yer blood.

Ok you got me.
let me rephrase that a little bit.
As a kid I buried my planes in their back yard, these days, I burry them in my own back yard ...maybe I should go back over to Mom and dad's house and dig up some of my old planes to see if there might be some useable parts I over looked years ago.
