This has to be one of the most impressive crash stories I've ever read. Outstanding photography,attitude and rebuild. Motivates me to dust off the 9c and go fly.

nice job you did with the fuselage.
how did you fit the parts correctly ?
looks like anchor points are missing after the crash . how did you insure correct gluing ???

In this first pic,I used 5 points,identified with red arrows, to realign the fuselage.I mated the two halves back together and used medium CA to hold it in place.Then I reinstalled the canopy to make sure I had correct gaps at the front and rear of canopy as
shown in the second pic with the red arrows.There was a wide gap at the top rear of the canopy,so I broke my upper glue joints
apart,used masking tape to pull the two halves together at the top,rechecked with canopy reinstalled,then reglued the joints together
in proper position.Let joints dry.I then went back with some 1/8" ply and epoxied over all the broken ply former joints.Pic three shows
three of the joints reinforced with the ply.On one joint,I did use Gorrilla glue,just to see how strong it is.I did not like how it foams up.So i used epoxy on the other joints.Obviously there are other joints reinforced but this is the only pic I have taken of them.
With this completed.I removed all the broken stringers from the bottom and installed new ones.I then removed the broken sheeting
from one side.I sheeted the bottom and then the left side.Removed sheeting from right side,then resheeted it.I did it this way so
the fuselage would not become twisted or out of alignment with all the sheeting off.As far as glueing,once I had it all back together,
I used medium CA on the inside to make sure all joints and contact points have been glued.

Yes, you are correct.But I like to fly something that will actually look like an airplane,not a corrugated box.
And I have not seen too many spads flying with a Zenoah G45.
And I did fly again that day.Just a different airplane.

Sorry about the crash i did the same thing with a Goldberg chipmunk a few years ago only i was coming in downwind. I used to be in the Augusta club back in 1990. Flew with some otherguys on the otherside of town also.

Rebuild update.4 pics of finished fuselage.Everything installed including smoke system.Also 1 pic of the cockpit
I made.I now need a 1/4 scale pilot figure.Anybody got one they want to sale,male or female pilot,but would prefer a female
figure for this plane. Now need to repair small damaged areas on both wings.Leaving tonight to go to Atlanta to
take kids to Aquarium tomorrow,so wings will have to wait.I will be on vacation next week so I will finish it then and fly it
again.I also got my new cowl in today.The one on the plane is Ok for now,but it does have some minor damaged areas that
have some cracking in it.Cowl is only $22.00 painted,so I went ahead and got one.I had to patch one wheel pant.used 3/4 oz cloth and Z-poxy finishing resin.

I was at SEFF shooting pics when QS flopped that one...there are two guys shooting pics on the opposite side of the flight like at 1:56 when he comes through with the rolling harrier...I'm the tall one.

As we snapped pics the two of us wondered out loud why he was taking the plane as far out (away from the crowd) as he was doing in that video.

We both assumed that he must be having some sort of a problem.

Not 10 seconds later it was on the ground.

We both thought it was a good move on his part...getting it away from spectators.

Didn't really hurt the plane, very slight stuff around the canopy area.

Spoke with QS today (at Top Gun) and the SEFF crash came up, specifically "What went wrong?"

He said that, following the crash, they took the plane back to the pits to figure out what happened. (I saw them there for a good hour plus going over the plane's electronics)

The 8711s in that plane pulled over 6A on the bench....you can imagine the amp draw in flight given the way he flies.

So you can bet that he'll have a healthy dose of electrons on tap from now on.

When QS crashed I was amazed a how quick the "DSM lockout" conversation started. Not once did I hear "FM lockout" or "AM lockout" over the course of the weekend.

What I did hear from one of the Hodgehounds at SEFF was "Yeah, I got stupid and dorked it in."


QS just made the smart decision for the safety of those around him.

So you're right, Robby. Roy is like QS. [8D]

Was just making light of the situtation..
Definately not casting any stones.... *I* can't afford to....

And you are right,, that QS mishap caused a LOT of armchair debates..
Even when it was made known as to what probably happened by QS...
Yes, high power servos pull some major amps... I had 13 8611's running
thru a 149RX.. Guess what,, that ole RX got pretty dang warm every time..
I have since pulled five of them out and have just as good of performance
but less weight and less amp pull.. Now have a cool and happy 149RX ..
Plus almost a pound off with less servos and linkages to haul around...

Roy has shown one heck of an attitude here with the crash,, the repair,,
and everything about it.. So yes, Roy is like QS in that regard..

People like Roy make this a fun hobby...

Interesting that U Guy's mentioned the Amp draw.

I have often measured it static on multiple servo installs. My last 47% project draws 2.5 amps on the Rudder alone.

The total draw under load I figured about 7 amps this has me always concerned me with regard to Regulators and Lith Ion Batteries.

Since this measurment occured on the really large machine I now run dual radio systems.

Guessing here but QS must be running 4 8711 for the ailerons and that is a big draw.


However on a typical 100cc size machine it's not needed.

On the QS bipe there is only ONE servo per surface..

Rebuild update......sort of. Finally found a pilot figure.Barbies are too small.Already tried one of my daughter's barbies for
size comparison.Went out to eat last night,then had to go get a sleeping bag for my daughter for a girl scout camping trip.
went to wal-mart supercenter.Looked in toy section for a doll the size I need.Did not find one.Also,I needed some new tennis
shoes,on the way to that section,I passed the craft section.Why not look there?Found a doll close to the correct size.No clothing on
the doll,though..Doll was only $2.50.If it is too small or big,I will let my daughter have it.Got home and sized her up to the plane
cockpit.Looks pretty close to me.I got my daughter to look through her doll clothes for a shirt(blouse) for the doll.Found one that
fit good.I had to cut the doll right below the chest area to get her to fit into the cockpit.Then I fit a 1/8" balsa base to her.Installed 2
screws to hold her in place.removed doll from cockpit and put thin CA in screw holes and covered the balsa base with thin CA to
strenghten it.The doll has too much hair for the cockpit,so I gave her a trim and then put it in a ponytail with a small ziptie.
First pic is for doll size comparison to the plane and for your entertainment. [X(]
Second pic is doll installed in cockpit.

Now to fix the wings
