Default Cooked Lipos?? HELP!!!

I have a Worley lipo charger and it is very simple to use and fool proof. I have been using Kokam 11.1v/1500 mah batteries all along. So far I have had one mishap with a battery that was left in a plane for a few days and swelled up.

I have recently purchased 2 Electrifly 11.1v/1200mah lipos. I made a lead for the jst type connector for the charge lead that comes on the pack and charged the first one. It worked fine. The next time I went to charge it it would not take a charge on this lead. The indicator light on the charger would not work.

The second one was flown a few times (2-3) without incident until my friend accidentally charged it through the discharge lead. I noticed this when removing from charger. It actually worked normally, but wouldn't take a charge afterwards. However when plugged into the charger with the discharge lead it looked like it took a charge but did not.

Does anyone know what is causing this or how to correct.
Also am I out $80?, or can these packs be fixed? I opened a pack and was thinking or removing the charge lead and resoldering the regular lead so I can bypass. Is this a good idea. I do not like the idea of two seperate leads coming from the pack. I would hate to think this is a common problem.
Thanks...Joe

There's nothing in the way the pack is wired to prevent you from charging through the "discharge" lead. My Astro 109 will not fully charge my 1200mAh Great Planes LiPoly through the discharge lead due to the "reflex" charging method it uses. Therefore I charge through the discharge lead, and let the charger be smart about charging.

You say "will not take a charge" and "did not take a charge." How did you determine that? Did you measure the voltage of the pack? What was it? If the pack goes under 3.0 Volts per cell, most chargers will refuse to charge it. I suspect that this is the case here.

Yes, you are probably out $80, but you might want to call Great Planes tech support and ask.

I sent 1 battery back before I used it because it tested .5 volts.

The indicator light on the charger would not light up when plugged in so it would not take a charge or, the charger would not charge it.

Do you have the number or e-mail address for Great Planes...I wnt to their home page and could find nothing.

Is it OK to charge throuh the discharge lead too?

Thanks joe
