Was just on my third flight last night and all of the sudden the tail motor quit and it spun out of control and crashed...Only about 3 feet off the ground thank god...So i pick it up and set it on my table to do a general test and when i throttle up I hear the 4in1 sqeeling and the tail motor will not move...Plus if i try to move it by hand and it seems aweful hard to turn...So I am assuming the tail motor is gone....3 flights and a fried tail motor...That kind of sucks, but from what I have read...Its a common thing that happens.
LMK what you guys think and if you have any suggestions.

Youre right this does seem to be a common occurence .First of all a heat sink and paste will help prolong motor life quite a bit. Theres also a couple other options. A dual motor setup adds life to your motors due to the fact that they split the current being delivered to your motors therefore not overloading as much. Also theres the direct drive option. Im currently waiting for the new tail rotor and adapter to test this one out myself. I really havent heard a lot about this setup but it jusy may be worth it. The motor costs 10 bucks and the prop and adapter from GWS costs about 11 bucks. As soon as I get the parts and install them Ill be posting on it.

I ordered a dual tail motor assembly last night. I can tell that my new tail motor is already starting to lose a bit of power. It only has about 3 batteries on it, and it's dying under the strain of my 11.1v lipo. I think the dual will be much better.
Psikelly, since you're going DD, and I'm going dual, we can each compare our experiences, and decide once and for all which is better. You game? I'm not talking about detailed record keeping or anything, just our impressions...
I've heard that the DD tail gives you better tail authority, but I have also heard that it draws a lot of power, etc. Also, I couldn't find much info on how long the DD motors last with 3s lipos.
I really debated about which way to go, and decided on the dual tail since I find the stock tail to be just fine for me as far as authority and responsiveness. I just want the motors to last a bit longer

Yea, let us know how it does, I've been looking at the dual tail motor setup for quite a while, but haven't bothered to get it yet. Mainly because the lipo kills it.

If it helps, I went thorugh the first motor pretty quickly, but once I stopped flying in grass or letting tail hit weeds on driveway (and got 2 heat sinks) I have been on same tail motor now for 3 weeks and about 30 packs... and I would certainly encourage as little testing as possible if it wont move... much cheaper to assume and replace tail motor than to burn up a 4-1 testng $10.00 motor.
Amazing how stable they are spinning down to the ground huh ?!?!?!?!?!?! WHen my tail went out it would goup and down just fine.... it owuld just be spinning madly while it did.
Glad to say after a month I can take off, land, forward flight (tail, left, right in) wihtout the t gear... also it was a little EASIER once I took off the gear... less wobble induced by the balls... once you can land well wihtout hitting tail take them off... they dont help in real crash anyway.
