Hi ya guys, Been pricing parts for the newest proposed addition to my heli fleet. All I can say is.......YIKES! I am not gonna hold back any more info as I need the BOB's input on this one. I am considering a Century Swift 50 size heli from the description I got at the local informal flying site last sunday. No TX, RX gyro or BEC but all servos and a few extras (tail boom. ect.)
As near as i can tell the swift is a couple years or better old and may be upgradable as needed to the newer Hawk or Raven style.
$250 for the heli and 4 towerpro coreless servos.......... all the rest is on me........ Battery's and gyro As well as a 80A ESC. As near as I can price things........ I would be about $200 ahead purchasing this pre owned setup.
Bob's unite!! Gimme some info and some guidance!
And as always............wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...... ......... Blade CP !!!!!!!

Arrow,

Just want to confirm if this is the heli you're talking about. See pictures and a video. If this is the one, I have to agree with you on parts, misc. supplies and batteries. Street price on them are running $469. Oh, you'll probably need a fancy charger too. YIKES, is right on. I'm running into that with my Logo 10.

BTW... Tell Jacki I said Hi!

just to consider, I was pricing out a TREX 600 for $275... that needed all electronics.

It turned out not to be that great of a deal once I priced out the needed parts. It was about the same price as buying a brand new 600 CF kit.

There are no free lunches.

However, the 50 size helis are a lot of fun!

on another note, I finally did it: listed my last CP Pro on eBay. Once it sells, I will no longer have any of the Blade CP helis in my hanger. The TREX's have taken over!

Now if it will quit raining, I can get some flight time in!

Arrow,

I concur with Jeremy, no free lunches. If the heli you're looking at is a year or so old, it's hard telling what parts may be worn and need replacing. You know yourself, as we all do, it's an expensive hobby. Maybe take sometime to do a little more researching and investigation on what type of heli will be your next venture. Don't jump the gun, like I do (impulse buying)!

I've made several bad decisions in the last 3 years and paid for it. (Raptor G2 and Falcon 3d) It's all in the learning thing. Get the best of the best, you're in for it for the long term, I know that. Just bite the bullet for the extra 100 bucks or so.

Always a hard decision, when moving up. So many helis out there. Check availability on parts too.

BTW... Tell Jacki, ole Chopper said HI!

Later guy,
Dave

Well........ until I hand any money over, its not a done deal. However I did price the Century Swift 550 at a couple places and the kits run about $350 with no servos. Just a motor and heli minus blades. The guy says the motor has only a few minutes of flight time on it. He converted his Raptor .50 to electric and stole parts off of this one to outfit that. from my research I need to see that he upgraded the main shaft to the triple bearing block as well as the blades must be included. At $90 a pop for blades I want to know I am at least ahead somewhat. I don't mind spending the $250 for it as long as it looks clean and well taken care of. I have enough scuffed helis I can easily spot a "worn heli pretty quickly. Also will have at least 2 of the local guys there with me so it will be a definate process to look it over.
The blade CP of Jacki's....... I just went thru it with a fine tooth comb and can find no problems with it at all. I need to hover it for awhile and try to heat things up and see if it wants to go for another unscheduled launch. Bench testing showed all servos working normally with no stripped gears, Main and tail responding normally with no signs of glitching or wanting to run away. The 4 in 1 was taken apart and looked over with the helping hand magnifying glass and I see no discoloration or burnt spots anywhere on both ESC and Rx side. This is one true mystery. I held that TX in my hand myself and tried to cut the throttle, servos, as well as idle up. the only thing that worked was the idle up switch but the pitch wasn't working at that time........ (I had the throttle at low stick when switching) I am wondering now if there wasn't another "something" on the same channel that overpowered the stock TX output and took control of her heli. Bill had his Futaba 6EX there but his TX was shut off.
The mystery continues...................

Arrow,

Sounds like you've done your homework and have the heads up going for you with the local guys looking it over too.

As far as Jacki's heli, it could have been a rare glitch. We are bombarded with frequencies, Cell towers, Satellite stuff and the list goes on. Give it a good bench test, I like to throw a crow-bar through the skids for weight. It's an old picture.

Yeah...you wanna be up on prices and the condition. The heli may be fine, but it's USED so pay used price. Upgrades.....1/2 the retail value if it's used on the upgrades alone. Just a general rule of thumb...results may vary a few bucks...but not much (EG....talk him down...LOL). Jacki's heli....never seen mine ever pull that, you never seen yours do that. I say 80% chance RF interference, especially since you cannot duplicate it on the bench. Not TX batteries, I'm sure you checked that. Not loose TX antenna, or wire inside the TX? Maybe a couple broken strands of RX antenna wire in the 4-1 (seen that before, so has Jer I think). I know you're up on all this, but I thought I'd shoot a couple things maybe you forgot. It was defininately radio related, I'm 80% sure. Let us know WHEN you find it...LOL.

Hi All, I thought I'd posts some pics of my progress on the " Better-fly " I'm having a lot of fun with this one, I hope it flies No heli flying for a bit, but I'll put the Blade up again soon, even if it is just basement hovering. Oh yeah, I got me a wheel barrow, too[8D] It's pretty tight in my basement but it makes me feel even more confident.

God Bless You All, I hope everything is running smoothly!

Jay -

she's looking pretty nice!

Arrow -

I now know why Jacki's CP went on the fritz....

It turns out there is a huge asteroid (TU24) heading our way. Not to worry, unlike Armageddon, it is not in a direct path with our planet (actually only a mere 334,000 miles or 1.4 times the distance to the moon)

interference from Asteroid TU24 is the best explanation I can come up with... lol
either that or as crash pointed out some frayed wires in the rx, but I'm sure you would have caught that by now!

on another note, there are some good quality used heli's out there... just do your homework and know what you are buying. with that being said.... I have added another TREX 600 to my fleet, thanks to eBay!

LMAO...another 600. Jer, when are you opening a T-Rex heli store? I'm looking for a T-Rex standard 450 tail assembly to replace the stock MX-400 because I heard the grips and tail rotor blades blow apart (LOL). Hopefully, the MX-400 is in todays mail. Got NO heli's right now so I've been working on PLANKS like Jay. Got some moncoating to do this morning.

Jay,

The "Better-fly", better fly! After all the work you've put into it. Looks great. Wheel barrows due help in close quarters, makes ya concentrate even more.

Running smoothly, you say.... Well, not for me anyway. Broke the wheel barrow last night. Smashed into the paneled wall big time,
and put a couple nice cuts on my right hand to boot. Lucky again, no stitches required. That's 2 crashes this year already, 2008 doesn't seem to good for the chopper so far. But still having fun.

Damage was HMMM, alot. CF Blades, many many parts in the rotor head, spindle, main gear, Boom, main frame.
The crash even pushed the pinion on the motor, up the shaft about 1/4 inch.

It'll be cheaper to order a bare bones, than to order seperates. Already order. I figured, in between crash 1 and crash 2 of this year. It's running me about 8 bucks a flight. LMAO

It was so loud when it crashed, my wife and daughter ran down stairs to see if I was okay. Bless them for checking on me.

Dave

All I can say is....WOW. Choppers, you need to take it easy buddy. MX-400 is here. I don't have to worry about the tail rotor breakage problem...it come "pre-broke". With some MINOR modifications, the spare I have from the HBKII parts bird was enough to effect repairs. The ball link on the tail rotor grip was broke off (brittle plastic). The HBKII grips are nearly the same size...real close but the balls on the grips of the HBKII are smaller so I modified it where I can use the entire blade grip assembly, and attached the loops for the ball links onto the original slider. Should be fine till I order the aluminum upgrade or a T-Rex assembly. I'm building heli today, Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...................modify and improve.[:'(]

Jeremy,

It is nasty, it's all puffed up today and think the blade bruised the bone in my hand. Hurts bad today. Oh, and I do know better, I just had a STUPID attack. The day before, I ran like 6 packs thru with everything going extemely well, last night battery 4 or 5 was my killer pack. I've got it torn down today, electronics all work fine. Just hope I can remember where all those tiny screws go. Should have my barebones Tues, or Wed. So until then, I have nothing to fly. Been there alot lately. LOL

Vic,

I only have you to blame Vic, remember, you were the one, that told my not to be afraid to break my pretty little bird. J/K you know that.

MX-400: LOL, "pre-broken" what an intervention that is. They probably knew you were going to upgrade it to a Trex unit and sent you the left overs. Leave it to you with your resources to come up with an on the go fix. Don't forget the Loctite.
Take pictures as you go and give us an update on quality, minus the broken stuff

Later guys, gonna munch down some Tacos,

Dave

GRETTINGS ALL y'all
LOOKY J the batteries ARRIVED one minute ago.... look for the E-Mail

Was out flying the HBK 2 USING A """FINGERPINCH MODEL TRANSMITTER TRAY"""" for the first time with a HBK2 WHAT A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE !!!!!! the control input has improved 100% maybe more
Good flying moment here, between cold fronts : 60F dead calm no breeze. I just CAN'T PUSH MYSELF INTO FORWARD FLIGHT.......what does it TAKE ??????? DARN
- but seriously I strongly recommend a tray for the flying......it works so well, at least for me.

VIC - great on your retirement : look for my E-Mail

Dave: so sorry you had an accident. two nicks on the back of the hand remind me of flying planks, that happens all the time.
Together with the box OF SUPER BATTERYS received from LOOKYJ, the ASTROFLIGHT BLINKY also came this morning, just minutes ago. If you don't know, this is a device that READS each individual LIPO CELL and is recommended Highly in the RAY's DVD series.... now with this blinky, and the TEJERA CHARGER + balancer I think I can safely say the battery situation is 100 % I am also curious to see just how well the TX battery works within the DX-7 transmitter. I am told you can fly the TX for a whole week W/O having to re-charge ( ? )

With better batteries and a SUPER BATT. for the DX-7 I will today begin putting in the [[[[[[[[LOOKYJ DX-7 PROGRAMMING]]]]]]]]]] into the TREX.....then Mr. Mark Conroy will do the checking and the maiden flights for me
I will now dedicate myself fully to the RAPTOR, so I can return to my PRIMARY INTEREST ( small electric Helis - HBK2 TREX etc ) once I have the FLYING MOTIONS set into my THICK SKULL

But SO FAR ( more than ONE YEAR ) I still have all my orginals in good shape.
Greeting to all : ARROW BRIAN VIC DAVE JER Pilot but where is WNUK ?????

Geese Dave[X(] Ouch[:@] $$it happens...right

Vic, kinda stinks that sellers send undisclosed crap, I've never bought anything off ebay, I now you can get great deals, but also screwed. I like to hold and look over the stuff I'm buying. My wife has a friend that even bought a car from ebay[X(] NO WAY!

Rick, just push that puppy forward and fly it like a plane. If you can fly a 2 a once your mind is just holding you back, not your talent. My first FF was on accident trying to save my Blade from a crash. Once I recovered and began to relax I couldn't believe how easy it was. Pick your least expensive heli and push it forward, you'll love it

God Bless Ya'll,

The broken stuff on the heli on the tail rotor, I knew by reviews it was a weak point and I had to replace it anyway...it wasn't really the sellers fault, just bad material used. Just like I know the center hub breaks easily, so I bought an aluminum upgrade. Just like the HBKII, it has it's querks, and I gotta work through them. It'll be a nice heli once I take care of all the little problems.

The plank is my new GWS Slow Stick and the rest is assorted Blade CP's and a TREX (blue canopy) as well as the HBK2 (green canopy) The CX2 is missing, I forgot it until after I took the pics. Hey Rick.......guess which one is the one you sent me! As well as Dave.......take a look and see if you can find Jackis heli!
I paid $200 for the heli with 3 servos and the new brushless as well as spare mains and tails and assorted frame parts. The swift will go on the shelf until I buy a gyro, ESC and BEC and a tail servo. I have all the other pieces to get it flyable. Well..and I am going to buy a Lipo 14.8V 20C 4000mAh.

Arrow,

Super happy for ya, looks GREAT with the new addition to your fleet. You will love it, better get a new credit card. Them thar batteries will cost ya. LOL. Me too, with the Logo 10.

Which one is Jacki's heli, piece of cake, third and forth picture.. White ping-pong balls on the training gears and the orange bead on the tail support. I do pay attention. I find that is a key to life, "PAY ATTENTION" and remember what you see/observe.

Later guy, best to ya, and tell Jacki I said HI!

Dave

Ya......tis only a .30 sized electric but dangnity.......she had blades all the way from the fireplace to the coffee table. Jacki says........yer gonna cut yer head off with that thing! Dave, your logo is larger than this one or the same size? I am curious what battery you are gonna run in yours. I found a site www.truerc.com but am hesitant to try them. I will be placing a call and talking to someone in person before giving up my CC#........ ( I have 4 Dave, I can juggle them pretty good )
crash........ it is amazing how large this one is and prices for parts............ Eflite has thier pricey stuff......Century has about 4 items I consider acceptable, the rest is OMG!

OOOOOppppppppppppps..........choppers.......Jackis says heya back!
