Default Long or Short flybars?

Anyone here prefer a long or short flybar? My CPP I shortened the flybar to 5 1/2 in on each side of the flybar frame. I think it is less responsive(good for me till I can fly this thing) and more stable. And also are there any weighted paddles that will fit a CP/CPP?

I would go with longer flybars. I am no expert on these things but from the research I have done on the forums, longer is better.
The extra length will not only make it more responsive but also make it more stable. I am planning on replacing my blade cp flybar with a larger one from a t-rex soon, if I can find one about the right size.
If you want to make it a little less responsive try wrapping a little solder wire around the flybar where the paddles are connected, that would probably be easier than finding weighted paddles. This helped me a lot when I was learning to fly this bird.

As another option, they do sell flybar weights that dampen cyclic response =)

To clarify for the newbies reading everything and trying to sort it out;

A longer, and heavier flybar will improve flight characteristics on a Collective Pitch (CP) style heli because the pilot actually controls the flybar and the flybar controls the rotor.

A Lighter and / or shorter flybar will improve flight characteristics on a Coaxial (CX) style heli because the pilot actually controls the lower rotor and the upper rotor stabilizes the heli thru gyroscopic action. A shorter / lighter flybar has less ability to prevent the heli from moving.

Right?

wouldn't a lighter flybar increase responsiveness though? i have a trex flybar on mine and it's definitely heavier, so it's more stable, however, because it's longer, i don't think i've lost any cyclic if not gained the rate.

Have a look at this (part 10), it may help.

Great site, I learned a lot from it.

WOW there is alot of really good info on that page.

The speed of response of the flybar to commands can be adjusted as follows:

# Increasing the weight of the paddles slows it down.
# Increasing the area of the paddles speeds it up
# Increasing the rotor RPM speeds it up
# Increasing the aspect ratio (span/chord) of the paddles speeds it up.
# Increasing the length of the flybar speeds it up.

So decreasing the length slows down cyclic response, and stability.

yep, correct,
so it's correct that the heavier the flybar, the more stable but slower? right?
