Default Hey Wolfpackin-NAV lites!!

In a previous post you mentioned putting Nav lights on the 'wing' tips of your little bird. I received my Nav lights the other day and I don't think that mod will be possible due to the way the red and green lights are assembled. So I e-mailed the manufacturer and here's his reply:

"For that its actually not easily possible because the
nav lights are on a series circuit and the wire that
goes between the 2 leds is sealed in the mounting
bracket as well as the main power wires are also
sealed into the bracket for protection. Sorry I
couldnt be of more help, if there is anything else we
can do, please let me know."

So, unless someone else makes a light set other than KRS Hobbies that's configured differently it doesn't look like that mod is possible, unfortunatley. However, someone that is good with wiring might be able to find a way around that. Oh well, that was a GREAT idea you had Wolfpackin and I was wanting to try it also, but it looks like we'll have to put them the way they were intended!! What a bummer!![] I just thought you might like to know and maybe save you some time.

Ben-

Thanks for the info. I have been wavering on buying them due to my concern with weight and also learning that they cannot be controlled from the tx. I know they don't weigh that much but because I live and fly at around 8,000 ft. I am always concerned with putting more load on the battery and motors.

Is the problem that the two lights won't reach to the wing tips? And WHERE are they intended to go?

Anyway, thanks for the heads up and I still like the way my heli looks with the CF tailboom and the wings.

Hi Wolfpackin!!

You're right, they can't be controlled by the Tx, but they do have an on/off switch so you can fly with, or without them. No, there's no way they'd ever be able to reach the wing tips, unless they could be separated from the bar that they're on, and even then I doubt it because the wires appear to be too short to extend from wing tip to wing tip. They were made to be mounted under the servo brace bar. Better yet, here's the link that came with the instructions and that should give you a better idea as to their placement, because it's pictoral and that will explain it alot better than I could. BTW, I agree with you, that heli of yours looks GREAT and that idea of yours to cut the stock tail boom was really unique!! Here's that link http://www.krshobbies.com/instruct.html

BenMer,

Thanks again for the info and for thinking of me.
I'm glad to hear that the lights have a built in switch. Not as good as control from the tx, but better than nothing.
I'll probably wait to see what becomes available in the future or I might just go with the EngineeringDimensions spot light that is operable from the tx.

Not sure, right now I'm dealing with a mystery problem following a crash. I'm getting some binding and a high pitched rubbing noise from the outer shaft/lower blade assembly. Sounds like it is coming from the main gear or motor...not sure yet. When I get some free time (two kids and two jobs) I will do a complete disassembly and see what I find.

Anyway, thanks again and thanks fo the good words.
Not sure what pics you've seen but here are the most recent.

mrasmm,

What we wanted to do was to put the red and green nav. lights on the ends of the side wings.
Ideally they would be able to be turned on and off from the tx.

Do you have a link for the one you mentioned?

Thanks.

yeah, see if any of these will do ya.

If you aren't going to have them blinking you could just have something as simple as a servo that when it rotates flips a switch and turns on the lights.

Now, THAT'S what I call a set of lights!! Well Wolfpackin, you ought to be able to put that set of lights wherever you want to on your bird!! I'd like to get a set, but I'm through modding my CX-2...I'm waiting for my '400' and see what kind of mods they'll have for that one. That is, once I get the 'hang' of that new bird.

Yes, I have actually seen them in the past and since forgotten about them.
Looks like they would work and the added LiPo alarm is a plus.
But, I have to admit electricity is my week point, for the most part it seems like magic or voodoo.
All the options confuse me like will I need the CX2 battery adapter and in the V1 option do the clear lights always blink.
Anyway this setup is probably what I should get and I know someone in another forum site I can ask.

mrasmm,

Do you have these and if so which one V1, V2 etc.?

I don't have one, but just look at the different options you want. Like how many strobes, nav lights, or landing lights. He has a regular beeper, and a 93dB beeper ect. You can also see videos of them right below =)

GL =) Let us see some pics when you get her done =)

Thanks for the info.
The lights are on my wish list and don't know when I'll go for it. I'm still having great fun playing with flybar mods and right now waiting for new motors as one has gone bad.
I certainly will post pictures when I get it done.
