Default CX2 unstable hover after xtreme upgrades

Hi I just installed some xtreme upgrades to my CX2 this after noon, I installed the following:
Xtreme motors
Xtreme blades with grips
longer xtreme head and shaft
xtreme landing skids
Megapower battery
Fly bar mod

After I did all this and balanced the blades the helicopter would have the pendulum effect, it would not hold a hover flight, I have checked the flybar and it is straight. I noticed it was better after I did some trimming, but what can be the cause of this unstable-ness?

Butters I have all the Xtreme goodies installed with the exception of the grips and blades....they are in the mail. Your going to have to completely reset everything. I had to tweak my 4in1 reset my pots and make alot of adjustments to get her back to a hands free hover. However I did succeed! Give us a little more info if you could on flight characteristics. I'm curious to hear what more is going on.

You will need to reset your adjustments and trims. I have all of the Xtreme upgrades except the motors and flybar. I had to reset my trims and 4in1.

I would guess it's the grips and/or blades.
Try taking them off and running with the stock blades.
The blade grips could be causing the heli to be unbalanced at high rpm's.

If the symptoms are still present without the balde grips take another look at the flybar and make sure there is no friction or binding at the linkage balls. It should move around when you blow on it and not stick anywhere.

yea ok i put my stock blade rotors on top and the heli is MUCH more stable, its the blade and grips, it doesnt allow the fly bar to swing as freely, anyone have any symptoms for this? is this a common problem?

I don't have blade grips on my CX2 so I really can't help you too much.
Try to determine what is causing the flybar to bind.
Might just be the length of the linkage or the loop and ball connection. You can lubricate or sand the balls if the linkage is tight there.

I have heard of the flybar binding with the Xtreme blade grips.

Take out the longer inner shaft and put the stock back in. Then try it with the Xtreme grips and see how it reacts. Depending on how you did the flybar mod you may have the flybar too light! I have a super light version of the flybar and she really gets twitchy when trying to hover, in fact it's almost as bad as flying a single rotor! However when in forward flight with the lighter flybar she handles like a dream. Switch back to the heavier flybar and she hovers like a champ. My guess would be the new upper hub. I haven't heard of anyone having the new Xtreme head so your one of the first to guinea pig it! It may not be a good fit with the flybar. Goldslinger has had great success with the Xtreme grips and no reported problems with balance or TBE issues. My guess is the flybar and the new head don't like each other. Take that out of the equation and see what the results are.

well the flybar is good, im using the stock e-flite inner shaft because i couldnt pull the bearing out, but yea i think its the grip, when i tighten down the bolts, the grips are too tight, it wont have play like the stock ones.

Butters hold on till tomorrow if you can. Goldslinger has just installed the Xtreme grips and has them working like a charm. Hold on buddy we will get you balanced and flying with all your new goodies.

I've most of the Xtreme upgrades too now, except for blades and grips, and after a full reset it flies way better! I can 'set' it on its own column of air and it'll stay put with just little inputs! So my guess it's either the limited movement of the flybar or the alignment of the bladegrips. Have you checked bladetracking?! It's becoming more and more obvious that it should be dead on. Mine still isn't either, the linkage of the flybar i got didn't fit, so i had to use another one, but now the linkage cant be adjusted far enough, maybe thats the case on yours?

Also for the future try just doing one mod at a time, so it will help you in troubleshooting a problem, instead of trying to guess from 5 or 6 "new items", it will make it easier to locate a specific issue...Maybe try putting another stock part on at a time to see if the heli is cured, then you'll know that was the piece that was giving ya the problem, so then you can put the aftermarket piece back on and locate why it's doing that...Start with the grips... You've came a long way Butters..! Keep up the good work, Jeff

did you check the balance of the upper rotor assembly? Unbalanced parts will exhibit some of the symptoms you describe.

Someone posted on here about the upper blade grips fitting to tight and they had to be trimmed to fit the head pins properly.Something to do with the plastic in the grips at the pivot points.

You want to have the blades loose when they are mounted in the blade grips. There has been a problem with the Xtreme blade grips being tight. Take a small screw drive and gently pry them open.

i sanded the plasticpieces down a bit, its alot more stable, but i think i like the stability of the stock rotors betters.

I HAVE THE ANSWER!

I addressed this issue on another thread; but here goes.

YES, it does bind the flybar out of the package. What is happening is that the little barrel shaped nylon inserts are too long and bind the upper blade assy. and in turn, the flybar that governs it. What You need to do is shave about 1/2mm off the wider portion of the nylon inserts that go on the grips to the upper head. Sand it, cut it with an exacto; just take off enought to get the flybar bounce back. You don't want the grip assembly to have any end play side to side, but it has to move just as freely as stock, if You want it to behave like stock. When You're done, You're done. Then, it'll be perfect from now on, I guarantee it.

Then You didn't sand enough! The grip assembly has to wobble very freely up and down with the flybar; not to the point where the grips assy. can move side to side, but IT HAS TO MOVE PERFECTLY FREELY. You like the stock better because it ALWAYS moves freely, and so wil these is you cut, grind, sand, etc. more off.

p.s. I'm still on my first set of blades with these after almost 3 weeks.

Hope this helps; give them another shot.

Nice work Gary! This collective is the best, now when my Xtreme grips and blades come I know exactly what to do for top notch performance!

Yea, What's good for the Llama isn't necessarily good for the CX-2 out of the package. If done right, and it's easy to do right, then One will be happier than stock. For the first time; I can let go of the controls (for a minute or two) and walk over to the heli while in eye level hover; kinda flick it around; study it; It's great! (until the blade wash catches up with it off the walls, etc., then it starts to yaw and move). Oh, yea, and ZERO vibration in hover and these blades provide LIFT! (Your shafts, and everything else must be good, too). Combine that with more powerful batteries and You will keep out of trouble where You crashed before waiting for the power to catch up too late.

The XTREME blades are quiet, quiet, quiet ! ! More of a gushing sound. (Gee, You would think I have stock in the company; I do not).

Remember to balance the blades assembled in the grips; and keep them pretty loose in the grips, and it will do the rest.

Now I know what Soloboss is talking about when the heli is really dialed in.

I hope You get Your stuff, tomorrow Stump3r.

I'm going to order the Xtreme upgrade myself here in a couple of days. I installed the brand new blue LED flybar over the weekend. My X180 motors should be coming soon and then I can complete the project with the other Xtreme upgrades. I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade my newer CX2 or my older CX2. Decisions, decisions...

Here's some pix of the new flybar.

i've found that if you reassemble the flybar the 'wrong way round' with the attachment to the upper blades to the ball on the 'wrong side' (not to say that there's a special side, but the side it was on and was 'used to' ) you'll get tbe - just flip the flybar around so it hooks to the other ball
