I've head great things about Xtreme and not so good with extreme.
I'm looking at getting a motor upgrade and I'll be going with Xtreme 180s
But for the bladegrips and blades who should I choose? I'm not a huge fan of aluminum and would like to keep my weight down. I like the thought of Extreme's plastic grips and the price.
any advise? Is it ok to mix?

I've been running my CX2 with Xtreme 180 motors (carbon bushes and stock batteries) for about 2 months and I'm happy with them - not a huge power increase but enough to improve flight characteristics – seems smoother!
I’ve also fitted the Extreme core a week ago and I must say it’s the best upgrade I’ve done – my heli is now quieter, more responsive and I haven’t come close to a blade strike. The blades are also pretty tough - I clipped the coffee table last night and the blade took a chunk out of the table!
I chose the Extreme core over aluminium blade grips for a couple of reasons – firstly value, the Extreme core worked out cheaper than the aluminium blade grips plus you also get longer inner and outer shafts, bearings, and a bunch of other stuff. Secondly, (I’m not sure if this is right but) to keep the weight down – correct me if I’m wrong.
I’ve heard allot of bad things about Extreme products but in my experience with the extreme core I’m very happy. Ok, it maybe made-up of components that I could have sourced cheaper if I shopped around and bought each individually but how much would you really save?! Personally I’m willing to pay a little extra for the convenience and the peace of mind that you are getting all the correct bits in one package.
I’m not defending Extreme or saying what they are doing is right and I have no experience with other extreme products so I can’t pass judgment. But I would say half the business in the world work on the same principle – Car manufactures, supermarkets, clothing retailers, even RC manufactures will buy products and sell them under there own name at a marked-up prices.
Take the Blade CX2 from E-flite for example; it comes with a Spektrum transmitter. Even if they are sister/parent companies, E-flite will still have to buy the transmitters in and I would be very surprised if E-flite doesn’t take the opportunity to add a little something before selling it on! – That’s just business.
Sorry for the rant!
This is just my opinion – please correct me if I am wrong!

I have to say that is the first positive comment ever on the extreme core! I'm an Xtreme guy through and through. Have the motors, blades and grips...and love them. If I was to buy another CX2 tomorrow I would outfit her from nose to tail with Xtreme! Great performance, excellent value and good support. Works for me.

Wow........... I just did a numbers crunch on what cutterboy bought compared to what i paid for the exact same parts. The shorter flybar 14.95..... I paid 3.49. The longer outer shaft 8.95........... I paid 4.05. The longer inner shaft 7.95........ I paid 3.19.
His parts are not his unless he bought the mold from Dynam or rights to use it to inject the parts using his own plastic material. His website claims he is the direct manufacturer but I find it very odd that his parts are the EXACT same as the Dynam Vortex parts available from BPHobbies. I just don't buy the statement its a good deal because you may have had to shop around and source the parts yourself. They are all on one web page at less than half the price. [link=http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=A1972394]Found here[/link] , buy what you will and where you will.......its your money, I just prefer to find a decent deal and use the money saved for other things.

Ok I think I need to clarify something here – I’m from the UK and I bought the extreme core from a UK distributor for £30 (about 60 US dollars!) yes it is allot of money for a few plastic parts, but I priced up the Dynam Vortex parts separately from a UK distributor (the cheapest I could find) and they would cost me £56!!! That’s about $112 US dollars!!!!!
I have bought stuff from the states in the past and I’ve actual got a boom and skid on order from KR’s hobbies but it can take between 3-5weeks to be delivered – that’s along time for a heli to be grounded!! If I order from a UK company I’ll get the parts the next day.
You guys think its expensive to fly… you should try doing it in the UK!! - A set of Dynam Vortex Blades (2 upper, 2 Lower) will set you back $20!!!

We have been trying a new shipping method. 3 to 4 days to Amsterdam. 2 -3 days to Canada. 3-4 days for the UK. Just an FYI. Got stuff from HK in 2 days, actually still had the British Air sticker on it. At least it traveled first class (so to speak).
I have not used the EXTREME/Dynam core stuff. I have a set of Dynam motors on a Walkera 5#4. Good motor, better than stock, but I will be trying the XTREMES next week.
PS. XTREME replacement collars are being shipped from HK tomorrow. All current customers who purchased the XTREME grips will be receiving them free of charge. Should be here first of next week, then on to you all directly after that.

Cutterboy, that's because Dynam isn't officially sold in Europe (at least not UK, FR, NL, DE), it's called Protech here. I have to deal with the same price-differences, blades here (Graupner, same mould and factory!) are €20, which comes down to $29 or £14. And i didn't have good experience (even 11 weeks transittime) with overseas ordering until i found USHobbySupply!
Fact still is, that Extreme (so with the E) is still overpriced for most of us and just repackaged stuff. Furthermore is their information incorrect and sometimes a plain lie. I'd go for Xtreme with my eyes closed and no second thoughts.
About the Spektrum kit that comes with the CX2 (RX&TX), they are cheaper from E-flite then from Spektrum from what i've seen/found.
Not to offend you in any way, just to shed my light over/on this discussion or how you call it 'rant'

Thanks for the info guys,
If USHobbySuppy can deliver to the UK in 3-4 days then I’ll be in contact next time I have a blunder!
Just done a quick calculation and if I was to buy all the parts that makes up the extreme core using standard e-flite parts, i.e inner, outer shafts, bearings…. (but minus the grips) it would cost me £45 ($90) that’s £15 ($30) more expensive than the over priced extreme core!!!
Any other hints where I could get cheaper parts/upgrades from within the UK?!

I've been flying several configurations with my CX2 including alum upgrades from Eflite & MicroHeli, along with Extreme Core, Xtreme and Dynam Vortex parts. In my experience, Extreme Core is not an inferior product and it is definitely not the same parts rebranded from the Dynam Vortex. The shape of the blade grips & lower head are different, and it's a different quality plastic. I've had a very positive experience with Extreme Core, contrary to popular belief. Of all the parts between Extreme Core & Dynam, the flybar is very similar, but the lower part of the linkage is different. Other than that, they are different. The Xtreme parts are very nice too (haven't tried blade grips or new upper head yet...).

Arrow, i'm a little confused. I fly with Cranium and the parts a little different.
I have the dynam shafts (which are great) but kinda seem to come a little bent from bphobbies I have not addressed this issue with him. The gears are a little lopsided. I've seen Cranium's extreme core and the gear rides on a straight plane with the pinion. This doesn't seem to cause a flight issue though and i agree the cost is MUCH CHEAPER with vortex parts. However...
Shipping from the place where cranium gets his cores is CHEAP which may negate the price savings...i'm out calculating now.
The upper head for vortex is different shape than the upper head for extreme core. I don't want to spend more money testing, but i bet it is the Esky upper head. The picture on bp's site makes it look the same.
The lower rotor head for the vortex has incorrect linkages to work with the blade cx2 swashplates (MH)
Where can i find the correct linkage which comes with extreme core? Is this also a repackaged esky piece? I would much rather have lighter plastic grips than the Xtreme alum (which look great and i hear fly great) but the plastic extreme core flys very quiet and stable.
I'm all for saving money, but they now sell it with 8 bladees making the cost pretty spot on. I agree the vortex blade grips are a little different in shape than extreme core...maybe they are really the esky grips?
Until i find a linkage...i'm on stock blades. I think i'm going to order the Xtreme from USHobby when he gets the new version instock.
Done rambling...i'm quiet...i'll post more! (i'm the pusher who got Cranium started)

In fact, looking at parts for the walkera 5#8 the linkage looks the same. But then the walkera 5#6 has a differnt looking linkage in the picture, but aren't all the walkera 5#xx the same set up just different extras/bodies?
