Default BAD BLADES

Hi guys, Just replaced my bottom stock blades on my cx2. Once again the blades didnt track right. I know you can boil them but just how common is this. It seems like half or more of my blades are warped.

Hi Pikester,

I have found that 3 out of 4 blades I buy are not correct from the bag and need balancing and or boiling. We are told that at the base of each blade there is a code number or letter to help you mate them from bag to bag from when they are made on the production runs from the factory. Yes the code it there but..I have found that generally the lower blades are more balanced that the top sets. As a matter of fact when I re-work my CX I just put the hot water on no different then getting out the blade balancer.........its just part of the game, remember where this stuff comes from! Now once you get to be good flyer with more experience then blades balanced or not the Heli still flys great overall. But if you want to hover and have the Heli just hang there like its on a piece of thread then you have to do the extra work. I fly often with blades that look like potato chips, you just get to the point where you can do that "if you want to".

Good Luck JPEE

Ya gotta remember how they get here. The bulk storage units the size of a semi trailer are the standard of the shipping industry. The thing is filled with stuff from China and loaded onto a ship. At 8 feet tall, the stuff on the bottom gets squished and it certainly gets hot as it sits at the dock warehouse awaiting the clearance to move to the merchandising chain.
I know, that's no excuse, but that's why the things are warped. I would guess that as the summer progresses the heat warp will get worse. I suppose the blades purchased directly from a Chinese retailer would be mailed as purchased goods, not general merchandise bulk. That might get you better parts. Just a thought.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I will just boil them all now before I balance them.

I was hoping you would jump in with that test and photos and such. That's the kind of information that would have saved us a ton of time and money if we would have known about it when we were newbies.

Have a great day!

Heres an odd quirk for you guys. My cx2 flies fine, hovers fine.Spin the nose to the left and it wobbles bad. Turn to the right and wobble is gone. I have two ideas, swashplate or center of gravity. I will try the cog first,if that doesnt work I will tear her down and pay close attention to the servo and swash setup. Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks for the kind words Solo. Comming from you and your ultimate How-to guide that means alot.

Pikester, please take note that:
Lower rotors/shaft turns Left
Upper rotors/shaft turns Right

So it seems that your problem is comming from somewhere in your lower assembly. That would include bearings/hubs/blades/shafts and gears.

O.k. guys, here is another symptom of the problem. Say youre in a hover and you push the left stick full left. Bad wobble, but if you move the right stick forward wobble goes away. That is why I thought swashplate. I tried everything but the bearings. Will try that next and keep you posted.

Well I think I have figured it out. One of my bottom blades had a hairline crack in it. I feel kinda stupid for not spotting it sooner. I also noticed my battery moves a bit. New blade and a rubber band to hold the battery in place and the wobble is gone.
