JR servos for B400
Has anyone installed a JR servo kit JRPF300H in their Blade 400? I want to upgrade my servos and would like to use the JR kit.

Warbarb,
I know Rotorydoc used JR's but I ma not sure on the model number he used? I can say he loves them and they dropped in as opposed to my Hitec 65 MGs that required some dremel work.

Rotorydoc uses the JR DS285's I believe... There good servo's and I've ran them in my Trex for awhile... Currently I'am trying out the HS 65MG's in it now for experimental purposes, and so far I'am liking them... Still have some time before I decide which ones I'll prefer, but for now I like them both and there both VERY popular by many....

RE: JR servos for B400
Hey warbarb,
I have the JR DS285MG servos in my B400, and love them. A direct bolt in install, and easy setup. Just remember that the servo direction is opposite the stock Eflite ones.
I did not go with the kit, because I wanted the metal gear servos (thus the MG suffix on the part), and the kit used the plastic geared servos.
I have had a few minor incidents with the heli, and the servos were unscathed. Since I installed them, I have never given them a second thought. I still am using the stock tail servo, and it has been holding up well. I don't think is has as much stress on it as the cyclics.
They weren't cheap, but well worth the price I paid for them. Highly recommended!
Good luck with it...

RE: JR servos for B400
Hey guys
Thanks for the info. Just what I needed. I had a crash yesterday and whiped out two servos along with a few other parts so now is the time to upgrade. I'm going to go with the DS285MG servos.
Thanks again JPEE, J-MICHAEL and rotarydoc

I installed the JR servo pack in my Blade 400. And just as Rotorydoc said you will need to change the squashmix to reverse the servo's.
When I did my helicopter, I did not reverse my gyro and almost crashed my helicopter on lift off. Be sure to reverse your gyro as well once you have installed you JR servo's.

Hi GLenn
Thanks for the info on the JR servos. I ordered them online and expect them Friday. I have a question on the servo arms. Will the E-Flite arms fit the JR sevos and if not what did you do about the front servo with the push pull arrangement.
Thanks

Hey Warbarb,
Congrats on the servo purchase, you will be glad you went with the JR servos!
Nope, you have to use the servo arms/horns that come with the JR's...the output shaft on the JR servos is HUGE compared to the stock Eflite ones.
The servos will come with an assortment of arms/horns.
This pic should explain it all for you.
Hope this helps,
Glenn

RE: JR servos for B400
Good choice on the servos, I'm running JR's kit that comes with the tail servo too. I have never had a problem with them except for the intial setup and getting the servo throws the proper direction. The heli flys way smoother with these servos, they are a huge upgrade over the stockers.

RE: JR servos for B400
I've been running the HS-65MG's for an experiment for a bit now, after running the JR DS285MG's in my Trex for over 8 months and I have to say after some flights with the 65's in the Trex, I think I like the JR's better... They do run a faster speed being digital, and I can tell just from running the JR's than with these 65's that I just put in it. The 65's do have a much higher torque value, but even in a crash the JR's provide plenty and I would rather have the faster speed anyhow that the JR's offer....
In the pics below, (Crappy quality...Lol..) You can even see that the JR's are heftier where the servo arm goes onto even... Although they cost a few bucks more, its all worth it... And there even a half gram less than the ol' so popular everybody raves about HS-65MG's....
My two cents.....

RE: JR servos for B400
I just picked up my first Heli yesterday, the B400!! My friends at the LHS recommended that I replace the tail servo with a digital. I picked up a JR DS290G, according to JR's web site it is their performance upgrade for this Heli. It works great, is very fast and HH mode on the gyro works great! I have read dozens of pages of posts that talk about the 285's, has anybody else used the 290's?

RE: JR servos for B400
Those JR's are $16 more each which is $48 for the three, that is a lot of extra money. Becareful running full digital on the B400, the stock ESC is prone to "brown" outs when running digital servos as the digital draw more power then the analog ones. Combine that with a upgraded gyro and you could be in trouble. I would say the JRs might be better in the long run, but they are also more expensive.
I don't know why everyone has to modify the frame to fit the Hitecs, I did not have to. They were snugg, but fit in without a hitch.

RE: JR servos for B400
Actually a bit to snug, if it's to tight around the case the gearing can bind on the inside, had this happen when I put in the 65hb's, servos worked great on the bench for set up but after getting them in with NO moding to the frame they were jittered movement, filed out about 1m total around the mounting and the case and all was better.
